Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer hosted Michael Christos Diamessis, Ambassador of Greece to Ankara, who was paying his farewell visit due to the expiration of his term. President Soyer said that they will start work again for the Thessaloniki - Izmir sea voyage project, which was postponed due to the pandemic.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer hosted Greek Ambassador to Ankara Michael Christos Diamessis and Izmir Consul General Despoina Balkiza in his office. Ambassador Diamessis thanked President Tunç Soyer for the support he gave to bilateral relations during his farewell visit due to the end of his term of office, and said, “We are grateful for this support you have given even though there are not very close relations between the states. We have a common history, good and bad memories. We will only continue with good memories from now on," he said. President Tunç Soyer said, “This is exactly why we need to improve our relations. The future is ours. We will move forward with solidarity,” he said.
Expressing that he will come back to İzmir when he retires, Diamessis talked about the importance of developing the relations between İzmir and Thessaloniki. President Soyer said, “We want to start the Thessaloniki-Izmir cruises. This project has been delayed due to the pandemic, but we will start the work again," he said. At the end of the visit, President Soyer presented Ambassador Diamessis with a plaque with an olive branch figure on it.
