MARATHON MEMORY

Kılıçdaroğlu, Akşener, İmamoğlu and their delegation went to Altunizade after the marathon run in different categories. The delegation, which started the 8-kilometer public run here, walked together with the citizens to the exit of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge. The racers, who showed great interest in the delegation, had their photographs taken with Kılıçdaroğlu, Akşener and İmamoğlu walking with them. Kılıçdaroğlu, who asked the journalists about his feelings, said, “I am very happy today. It is very beautiful.” Akşener answered the question “What does it mean to you today”, “Today; It expresses unity, togetherness, friendship, belief in Turkey's future and freedom.”

'EQUALITY' PANEL FOR EDUCATION FROM DİLEK İMAMOĞLU

Kılıçdaroğlu, Akşener and İmamoğlu posed behind the banner with the inscription "Equal Education Every Child Has the Right", opened by Dilek İmamoğlu, who marched with the female administrators of the İBB to draw attention to the education of girls. Dilek İmamoğlu, stating that they opened the banner within the scope of the “Grow Your Dreams” project, expressed her feelings, “Every child should have the right to equal education. It was a good marathon for us. I want to say that we are sending a beautiful message of unity. Actually, we should all be together. After all, Turkey belongs to all of us. We should all lead our lives in love and peace," he said. The delegation, which took approximately 7000 steps, ended its walk at the exit of the bridge.

AWARD CEREMONY HELD AT SULTANAHMET SQUARE

In the organization shown in the “gold category” by the World Athletics Association; Races were held in the categories of 42 kilometers, 195 meters marathon, 15 kilometers of running and 8 kilometers of public running. The award ceremony of the marathon was held in Sultanahmet Square. Speaking before the award ceremony, İmamoğlu stated that such organizations were negatively affected by the pandemic and said, "I hope we will get through this quickly and reach much stronger levels from next year," he said. Noting that the marathon contains strong messages, İmamoğlu said:

“WE SHOULD WIN THE 2036 OLYMPICS TO ISTANBUL”

“There is peace in it. Already, Istanbul is the place where people come together. In other words, Istanbul is a city that unites people, just as two continents meet. Obviously there is another crowning of this feeling. It's the Olympics. We want the Olympics in this city. This city deserves the Olympics. As the people of Istanbul, we must prepare together for 2036 by embroidering the spirit of Olympism in its strongest form with all its components and with our state. And we must win the 2036 Olympics to Istanbul. It really brings a different joy, a completely different energy to a city. In this respect, the Olympics is an important goal for us," he said.

CHAMPIONS RECEIVE THEIR MEDALS FROM IMAMOĞLU

The race, which started on the Anatolian side, 15 meters behind the 250 July Martyrs Bridge, ended in Sultanahmet Square. Ugandan athlete Victor Kiplangat won his first marathon title with a time of 42,195:2:10 in the men's track of 18 kilometers; Kenyan athlete Robert Kipkemboi was second with 2:10:23 and Ugandan Solomon Mutai was third with 2:10:25. In women, Kenyan athlete Sheila Jerotich was the winner with 2:24:15; Kenyan athlete Jackline Chepngeno finished second with 2.24.21 and Ethiopian Ayantu Abdi was third with 2:24:45. Marathon champions awards; İBB President İmamoğlu received it from the hands of Istanbul Deputy Governor Niyazi Erten and Athletics Federation President Fatih Çintimar.
