Soyer: “Izmirians can relax”

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said, “The people of Izmir can relax. There is no garbage leachate or methane gas leakage related to the Harmandalı Landfill Facility. This has been determined by the preliminary scientific reports we received from Dokuz Eylül University professors. But I think the final report will be out after 1 month. In line with this report, it may be necessary to drive bored piles somewhere, it may be necessary to expropriate or evacuate the building, but we can say that there is no such situation at the moment. We are in safe hands. A very rigorous scientific study is being carried out. In the landslide area, instant detections continue with inclinometer wells. These studies also inform us about whether there will be any major disasters that may arise in the landslide area. On the one hand, as the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the General Directorate of IZSU, we continue to work together on the route drawn by our teachers, on the other. We will do what needs to be done in line with the final report," he said.

Buca, Karabağlar, Bornova, Karşıyaka ve Bayraklı The 2022 budgets of the municipalities were unanimously accepted.

Before the meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council members held a minute's silence for 10 November.
