After the completion of the tunnel excavations on the Fahrettin Altay – Narlıdere Metro line, which will be one of the lifebloods of public transportation in İzmir, the station works started. With the new line, which will consist of 7 stations, the number of stations in Izmir's rail system network will increase to 24, and the total line length will increase to 28 kilometers. Fully automatic car parks will be built at Narlıdere District Governorate and Balçova stations, which will allow the people of İzmir to park their vehicles and transfer them.

In line with the goal of bringing public transportation in Izmir to contemporary standards, the rail system investments of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continue at full speed. While 12 percent of the construction works were completed on the Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere Metro line, which was 82 percent when Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer took over the task, the second and last tunnel of 14,5 kilometers reached Narlıdere from Fahrettin Altay. After the tunnel excavations were completed, work accelerated at 7 stations. On the metro line, which is planned to be put into service on the Centennial of the Republic, fully automatic parking garages will be built in the transfer areas. A parking lot for 498 vehicles will be built at Balçova Station and a parking lot for 207 vehicles at Narlıdere District Governorship Station.

“Our target is 2023”

Mehmet Ergenekon, Head of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Rail Systems Department, stated that all tunnel works on the subway line, the foundation of which was laid in the summer of 2018, have been completed and station constructions are continuing. Ergenekon said, “The rough construction of the Martyrs' Station will be completed within 2 months. At the moment, excavations and shoring systems have been completed at 4 of our stations. We will begin their construction. We aim to complete the construction of our 4 stations towards the middle of next year. Then our fine works and electromechanical works will begin. Our goal is to open the metro to the use of our citizens in 100, in the 2023th anniversary of the Republic," he said.

“Fully automatic parking will be built”

Providing information about the parking lots to be built at Balçova and Narlıdere District Governorship stations, Ergenekon said, “We are working with a tunnel boring machine at Balçova and Narlıdere District Governorship stations. We have large-scale areas here and we thought of using it as a parking lot. We will increase the capacity by making fully automatic parking. We will build a parking lot for 498 vehicles in Balçova and a parking lot for 207 vehicles in Narlıdere District Governorate. Our citizens will be able to come to these stations with their vehicles and transfer.
