Turkey's Largest Flag Raised in Istanbul

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening ceremony of the flag poles of Istanbul Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery and Ulus TRT campus.

Reminding that they erected Turkey's largest flagpole on Çamlıca Hill on the 101st anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Karaismailoğlu said, “We had hoisted our 111-meter-high, thousand-square-meter flag next to Turkey's tallest building, which we put into service on the Küçük Çamlıca Hill. Today, we are inaugurating our flags with a record height of 115 meters in Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery and TRT Ulus Campus. Each of our flags is exactly one thousand 453 square meters. Our love for Istanbul started with the Prophet's revelation. It took root with the conquest of 1453. With the national struggle, its branches extended to the future, to the present.”

WE ARE NOT GRATEFUL TO ANYONE, WE DO NOT EXPECT ANY CLAIM

Emphasizing that flags are the most precious symbols of countries, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“For countries like ours, which have gone through historical struggles, they talk about independence and every inch of land gained with the blood of martyrs at a heavy price. Our flag is the most beautiful symbol of the rise of a nation that is wanted to be chained. We are the grandchildren of a generation who knew how to fight internal and external conflicts during the years of national struggle. We are not grateful to anyone. We do not expect mercy from anyone. Until yesterday, we were dependent on the outside even for the defense elements used for the security of our country. However, this picture has completely changed with the AK Party government. Today, there is a Turkey that uses its domestic and national production capabilities in every field, does not get permission from anyone, and has made huge investments to become one of the world's top 10 economies. There is a new Turkey that produces the national electric train set and is working hard to launch TÜRKSAT 6A, the first domestic and national satellite project in the history of the Republic, into space in 2023 and flying our glorious flag all over the world.”

Referring to the verses of Arif Nihat Asya, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “O white and red ornament of blue skies, My sister's wedding dress, the last veil of my martyr, Light, my flag in waves! I have read your epic, I will write your epic, My history, my honor, my poetry, my everything: Like a place on earth! Wherever you want to stand, Tell me, I'll plant you there!” used the phrases.

RECORD HEIGHT

Underlining that each of the flags with a record height of 115 meters in Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery and TRT Campus weigh 103 tons, Karaismailoğlu made the following assessments:

“The lower diameter of the flagpoles is 349 centimeters, and the upper diameter is 95 centimeters. Their total basis weight exceeds 633 tons. The pole components are designed as a weldless plug-in system, it is possible to go up with a ladder from inside the pole. Our flags are hoisted with an electric motor system. We planted our flags on the walls during the conquest of Istanbul in 1453. We were sacrificed for the sake of Çanakkale in 1915. We made waves in the liberation of Kahramanmaraş, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep and İzmir. In the treacherous coup attempt of July 15, we never, ever brought it down.”

WE PROUDLY WAVED OUR FLAG ON OUR INVESTMENTS

As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, our flag with the investments completed and put into service; Karaismailoğlu noted that they are proudly waving at Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, Istanbul Airport and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, “At the same time; Our flag and independence are also our greatest inspiration in our domestic and national projects in the Northern Marmara and Ankara-Niğde smart highways, in Begendik, Kömürhan and many more bridges, in our High Speed Train and subways. In Mavi Vatan, in our ports that broke export records, in Filyos, the project of centuries, and in our natural resource exploration ships in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, our flag continues to reassure our friends and instill fear in our enemies.

“We proudly carry our crescent and star to 128 points in 335 different countries of the world. We send it to space with our satellites,” said Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, and concluded his words as follows:

“Look where we will wave our glorious flag. On the Çanakkale Bridge, where we will repay our debt of loyalty to history, by putting it into service on March 18, 2022. Space is in our homeland with TÜRKSAT 6A, our domestic and national communication satellite. We are in our cyber homeland with 5G, which we will pass with domestic and national technology. And of course in Kanal Istanbul and many other projects like this.”

After the speech of the Minister of Transport, Karaismailoğlu, the Turkish Flag was hoisted to the accompaniment of the National Anthem.
