The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that the works in the metros in Istanbul continue without slowing down and that the first stage of the Gayrettepe-Airport metro line will be tested tomorrow.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made a written statement about the Gayrettepe-Airport metro line. Stating that the work continues on 7 metro lines in Istanbul 7 hours a day, 24 days a week, Karaismailoğlu noted that the total length of the lines is 103,3 kilometers. Karaismailoğlu stated that these lines are Pendik-Tavşantepe-Sabiha Gökçen Airport, Bakırköy (IDO)-Bahçelievler-Kirazlı, Başakşehir-Çam Sakura-Kayaşehir, HalkalıBaşakşehir- Istanbul Airport, Altunizade-Ferah Mahallesi-Çamlıca Mosque-Bosna Boulevard Rail System Project, Kazlıçeşme-Sirkeci Rail System and Pedestrian Oriented New Generation Transportation Project and Gayrettepe-Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport.

50 percent of Istanbul rail system network is done by the ministry

“Currently, Istanbul's rail system network is 259,5 kilometers. When our ongoing projects are completed, this figure will increase to 362,8 kilometers,” said Minister Karaismailoğlu, and drew attention to the fact that 50 percent of the Istanbul rail system network was built by the Ministry.

Noting that they aim to complete all 103 rail system lines with a total length of 7 kilometers in 2023, Karaismailoğlu said, “The TL equivalent of the 103 kilometer rail system line is over 60 billion liras. As a ministry, we are doing our part more than enough.” said.

It is aimed to transport 600 thousand passengers per day.

Underlining that they will carry out the test drive of the Gayrettepe-Kağıthane-Eyüp (Göktürk)-Istanbul Airport Metro line tomorrow, Karaismailoğlu said, “At the end of this test drive, where we will travel 30 kilometers, we will reach Istanbul Airport station and we will be one step closer to the day when we will offer this metro line to the service of Istanbulites. " said.

Explaining that they will travel 30 kilometers in the test drive, Karaismailoğlu said: “By reaching Istanbul Airport Station at the end of the drive, we will be one step closer to the day when we will offer this metro line to the service of Istanbulites. Starting from Gayrettepe Station and reaching Istanbul Airport, the line is 37,5 kilometers long and consists of 9 stations in total. It will be possible to reach Istanbul Airport, which is the most important intercity and international air transportation terminal of Istanbul, Turkey and the region, directly by rail system in a safe, fast and economical way. It is aimed to transport 120 thousand passengers a day with metro vehicles that will travel at 600 kilometers per hour.”
