The exhibition titled “We Are From Here Turkish-German Life 1990 Ergun Çağatay Photographs”, which consists of photographs taken by Izmir-based photographer Ergun Çağatay among Turks living in Germany, met with the people of Izmir at the Culturepark Art Gallery of the Izmir Painting and Sculpture Museum. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the exhibition opening. Tunç Soyer Nilay Kökkılınç, Member of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council, attended on behalf of the event.
The exhibition titled “We Are From Here Turkish-German Life 1961 Ergun Çağatay Photographs” opened at the Ruhr Museum on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Labor Agreement signed between Turkey and Germany in 1990 is at the İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum Kültürpark Art Gallery with the people of İzmir. met. Foreign relations representatives of the Republic of Turkey, Izmir representatives of the Goethe Institute, business people, artists, politicians and members of non-governmental organizations attended the opening of the exhibition, which was organized in cooperation with the German Federal Republic Consulate General in Izmir and the Goethe Institute.
Kökkılınç: “Intergrating cultures are being transferred”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Nilay Kökkılınç, who attended on behalf of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, pointed out that there were many turning points where the paths of very different societies crossed over time, and stated that the cooperation agreement signed in 1961 affected the vital interests of both sides. Stating that the cultures intertwined with the exhibition are conveyed to the visitors in a very simple way, Kökkılınç said: Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to those who contributed to the exhibition of the works of İzmir-born artist Ergun Çağatay, who passed away in 2018. In the opening speeches moderated by Goethe Institute Izmir Director El Sioufy, German Federal Republic Izmir Consul General Dr. Detlev Wolter drew attention to the importance given to friendship and cooperation between the two states since the past.
Meltem Küçükyılmaz, the project coordinator and curator of the Ruhr Museum, stated that they are happy that the exhibition has attracted great interest in Germany and Turkey and emphasized that they consider the photographs of the artist, who passed away in 2018, as a cultural heritage.
The exhibition can be viewed until 9 December.
