Bird Watching Walk is Held in Gediz Delta

A Bird Watching Walk is organized in the Gediz Delta on 13 November at 13.00 with the cooperation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Nature Association. You will meet across the Mavişehir Tram Stop for a walk in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Candidate Gediz Delta.

In the Gediz Delta, which is at risk with the pressure of urbanization and the threat of construction, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Nature Association organize a Bird Watching Walk on 13 November at 13.00. You will meet in front of Mavişehir Tram Stop for walking. With the event in the delta, which is among the most important natural areas of Turkey, it is aimed for the people of Izmir to witness the life there, to observe flamingos, pelicans and dozens of different species.

At the Bird Watching Walk event, the Nature Association team will give information about the Gediz Delta. Then, the birds and life in the Gediz Delta will be closely watched with the help of telescopes and binoculars. For contact and information, you can visit Kurs@dogadernegi.org.

One of the rare wetlands

The Gediz Delta, which is home to thousands of creatures, is one of the rare wetlands on earth within the metropolitan area. Although it is protected by national and international laws, the Gediz Delta, which is among the endangered natural areas, is home to about 10 percent of the world's flamingos. Delta is known as one of the two important breeding areas of flamingos in Turkey. In addition to flamingos, 298 bird species have been observed in the delta so far.

UNESCO candidate

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has made an official candidacy application for the Gediz Delta to be included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Tentative List, is carrying out important projects to make Izmir a city in harmony with nature. Continuing the 35 Living Park project in order to bring the citizens of İzmir to an urban life integrated with nature and forests, the Metropolitan Municipality also creates green corridors that uninterruptedly connect the city center to the natural areas with the İzMiras routes.
