While 911 couples have applied to the free Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) test application initiated by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its activities prioritizing public health without slowing down, gene deletion has been detected in 42 people according to the test results. ABB President Mansur Yavaş said, “We directed our couples to alternative solutions so that no child could meet SMA.”
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which has signed human-oriented studies, took action for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), which is one of the most important health problems in the society.
Saying, "My priority is people and human health," Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş announced that they will meet the SMA test free of charge by making an announcement to newly married couples on April 21, 2021, in order to ensure healthier future generations.
APPLICATIONS FOR THE SMA TEST INCREASE EVERY DAY
While interest in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) testing is increasing day by day, 911 couples have applied to ABB for free testing so far.
While the Metropolitan Municipality continues to receive applications via the address “forms.ankara.bel.tr/smatesti”, gene deletion was detected in 42 of the couples who had the test within the scope of the protocol signed with Başkent University.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who made a statement on the subject on social media, said, “To date, 1.911 couples have applied to our free SMA test service. 42 gene deletions were detected. We guided our couples to alternative solutions so that no child could meet SMA.”
The test fee of one of the young couples who will get married until the end of 2021 within the borders of the adjacent area will continue to be covered by the Metropolitan Municipality.
