8 Term Requirement Removed for Graduation in Open Education High Schools

The 18-term requirement for the graduation of students aged 8 and over who will take the exams of open education high schools in December has been abolished.

The Ministry of National Education abolished the 18-term requirement for the graduation of students aged 8 and over who will take the exams of open education high schools in December.

The letter regarding open education schools, signed by the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, was sent to the provinces. According to the article, the exams of open education schools that carry out their activities within the Ministry are planned to be held in December.

In this context, the search for the 18 semester conditions required for graduation, which was previously applied, will continue in order for students under the age of 8 who have completed the other requirements for graduation in open education high schools to graduate in the same time as their peers.

The 18-semester requirement for students aged 8 and over to graduate will be removed. For these students, the graduation requirement, including the following semesters, will be applied as 5 semesters.

In his evaluation on the subject, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said that they are carrying out important studies to increase the participation rates of adults in education and to enable them to continue their careers.

Pointing out that the Ministry has made serious investments in adult education, Özer made the following statement:
“We have made a new arrangement in order to enable the students of 18 years of age and over to complete their unfinished education, continue their higher education and join employment in a shorter time. Our open high school students had 8 semesters to graduate. With the new regulation, we are reducing this to 5 terms. Thus, open education high school students aged 18 and over will be able to finish their school in 2 years.”

Stating that open school students over the age of 18 have taken an important step to shorten the time they take to the next stage in their work or education life, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said, "I wish the decision to be beneficial to all our students." said.
