The Ministry of National Education is taking new steps to popularize pre-school education. At the beginning of November, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer gave the good news that they will train 5 thousand new kindergarten classes for the second term. Less than a month after the gospel was given, 3 new kindergarten classes were opened. In the newly opened kindergartens, 971 thousand children started pre-school education. Thus, the schooling rate, which was 74% in the 5-year-old group, increased to 78%. MEB aims to increase the preschool enrollment rate to 83% in the 2022-year-old age group by the end of 5.

10 New Kindergarten Targets for the Second Term

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, in his assessment on the subject, said: “We want to expand access to pre-school education in order to increase equal opportunities in education. In this context, we will build 2022 new kindergartens and 3 new nursery classes by the end of 40. We made the necessary plans. As a first step, we started the construction of 12 new kindergartens, each with 100 classrooms, in Istanbul. We will build 2022 new kindergartens in Istanbul by the end of 1.000.”

Reminding that they took the first step regarding nursery classes in November, Özer said: “Within the scope of our target of 40 thousand new kindergarten classes, we announced that we would train 5 thousand kindergarten classes for the second term, namely February 2022. Our work quickly yielded results and we opened 3 new nursery classes before the end of a month. Our 971 thousand children have started to receive education in these kindergartens that we have just opened. Thus, the schooling rate, which was approximately 74% in the 5-year-old group, increased to approximately 78%. According to our new plan, we will significantly exceed our target of 83 new nursery classes by February. That's why we're updating our target. As a new target, we aim to have 5 thousand new master classes ready by February. When we reach this target, the schooling rate in the 10-year-old group will have increased to approximately 5. I would like to thank all my colleagues who successfully carried out the process, our General Directorate of Basic Education and our 93 provincial administrators.”
