The Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) met with sector representatives at the 12th Transport and Communications Council. At the meetings held in Çamlıca Sector Hall, the topics of Digitalization in Railway Infrastructure, Railway and Environment, Safety and Security in Railways, International Transport Corridors and Logistics were discussed.
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, TCDD held a meeting with the railways stakeholders and exchanged views within the scope of the council with the theme of Logistics, Mobility and Digitalization. In the meetings organized in 4 sessions; Digitalization in Railway Infrastructure, Railway and Environment, Safety and Security in Railways, International Transport Corridors and Logistics will be discussed.
Making the opening speech of the program, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş said, “We are planning to enrich our work and finalize it with the 3-day organization where the valuable opinions and experiences of the national and international representatives of our sector are shared. As the stakeholders of the railway sector, I hope that we will achieve beneficial and good results by enlightening each other's path in this session. As you all know, in today's world where mobility, speed and punctuality are very important, the railway sector, which is a safe, reliable, fast and environmentally friendly transportation system, is growing day by day.
Stating that in our railway sector, which contributes to sustainable economic growth, investments in especially urban rail systems and high-speed train operations continue to increase, General Manager Akbaş said: cause environmental disasters. For this reason, it becomes necessary to reduce the effects of climate change, to increase the rate of use of the railway, which is among the sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation modes, and to develop and implement policies accordingly. As a matter of fact, the European Green Consensus, which was officially announced by the European Commission in 2019, aims to transform the European Union countries into a fair and prosperous society in which greenhouse gas emissions will be zero in 2050, on the basis of an efficient and competitive economic structure. In order to encourage the preference of railways as an environmentally friendly, safe and sustainable mode of transportation, 2021 has been determined as the European Railway Year. In fact, this is a clear indication of how important our industry is for a sustainable environment. Within the scope of the European Green Agreement, it is envisaged that the Trans-European Transport Network with high-speed connection will be activated, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, by increasing the high-speed rail traffic and freight traffic.
Saying that railways will be the type of transportation that will mark the next 30 years in both freight and passenger transportation, General Manager Akbaş said, “At this point, our duty is to create a high-standard railway infrastructure with advanced technology, integrate our railway network into international transportation corridors and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for environmental sustainability. to implement all kinds of applications. All of our institutions will work with all our strength to achieve a future in which we will have a share in global trade with a sustainable environment, safe and secure transportation service by adapting to the digital world.
