The bike tour that started from Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital continued from Ataköy and ended at the starting point again. Cardiac patients who participated in the bike tour stated that they felt their hearts renewed every time they pedaled.
From the Department of Cardiology at Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital, Prof. Dr. In his speech about the event, Ömer Göktekin said, “The most important treatment of heart disease is actually sports and exercise. Risks such as high cholesterol and sugar, weight and stress lead to heart diseases. Exercise and sports are the cure for all these. It lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, reduces stress and distress, and prevents obesity. Therefore, it is an activity that provides all these benefits. The place of the bicycle in all sports is very different. Because it is an easier sport to do. We recommend our patients to walk and swim fast, but the most important thing is to ride a bike. Even in hospitals, we make our patients who we have surgery do sports by cycling. Cycling is a very important sport for a heart patient. Heart patients can do sports by cycling for a long time," he said.
Explaining that a significant portion of heart patients can also be obese and that it is difficult for them to walk fast, Prof. Dr. Göktekin said, “Even in hospitals, we make our patients do sports by cycling. Indeed, I can say that cycling is the number one sport for a heart patient. Heart patients can stay active for a long time by cycling.”
