IETT, the well-established institution of IMM, celebrated its 150th anniversary with a gala held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Speaking at the Gala, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluEmphasizing that Istanbul and Istanbulites need new metrobus vehicles, he said, “We are managing a process that tries to solve the needs and problems of this city, everyone who loves the people of this city, our people. Our Metropolitan Municipality, which actively and actively provides daily service to 16 million people, with other guests, asylum seekers and tourists, actually needs a service process with good planning. No matter what institution or organization of our state, when a matter or decision regarding Istanbul comes before it, it is responsible for acting in the most sensitive manner and doing what is necessary in order not to delay the service. In this respect, we will continue our determination to maximize this satisfaction with our service process.”

The journey of IETT, the long-established institution of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), started with the establishment of the Dersaadet Tramway Company and the first horse-drawn trams were put into service in 1871, and reached its 150th year. IETT celebrated its 150th anniversary with a gala held at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in Şişli Harbiye. Hosted by actress Pelin Batu, IETT's “150. Year Gala” started with the screening of a short film about the history of the institution with visuals and the speech of IETT General Manager Alper Bilgili. Summarizing the history of IETT in his speech, Bilgili said, “IETT has developed and transformed with its experiences in these 150 years. Today, we are a strong family of 15 thousand people, with our devoted employees who see the satisfaction of our passengers as our top priority. We are working non-stop every day to transfer this service tradition, which we have inherited from past generations, to our future colleagues in order to bring Istanbulites to their jobs, homes, schools, relatives and loved ones. We carry approximately 800 million passengers on 6000 lines, with our 50 vehicles, on 4 thousand trips. I believe that we will carry our IETT to even better places in the future.”

“I PROMISE MY GRATITUDE TO THOSE WHO SERVED FROM PAST TO PRESENT”

IETT's “150. Speaking at the “Anniversary Gala”, İBB President Ekrem İmamoğluHe emphasized that Istanbul is one of the cities with the deepest history in the world. Stating that IETT is one of the well-established institutions of Istanbul, İmamoğlu said, “There are not many countries and cities in the world with institutions for more than 100 years. In this respect, we really need to be aware of how valuable our IETT institution is. We need to put forth the highest level of effort to make it one of our most successful institutions," he said. Saying, "There are many valuable works that have been done for 150 years in the adventure that started with the first horse-drawn trams," İmamoğlu said, "I convey my feelings of gratitude to the managers and workers who have carried out these valuable works from past to present. Of course, there are those who lost their lives. I remember them with mercy and gratitude," he said.

GIVEN THE EXAMPLE OF THE ISLANDS

Emphasizing that IETT is one of the iconic institutions of Istanbul, İmamoğlu said, "It is our responsibility to carry it forward and to make its service to Istanbul the highest quality in line with the requirements of the age." Stating that there are historical structures such as the Tünel, which is the second subway in the world and put into service in 1875, within the body of IETT, İmamoğlu said, “When we come to today, the change and transformation process in the Islands has been one of the important steps of IETT. Because when this unfinished step is completed and it serves our people in the Islands and the visitors of the Islands 7/24 in a nature-friendly manner, with its highly qualified and identity vehicles, our electric vehicles will have a much more special place, replacing the phaetons there.”

“ISTANBUL PEOPLE NEED NEW METROBUS VEHICLES”

Saying, "We are continuing the process of providing a higher service, a better quality controllable and auditable service to Istanbul residents," İmamoğlu said:

“When we think of IETT, our municipality's buses come to mind. In 1926, the first buses started to serve in Istanbul and this service continues. Of course, the necessity of renewing and developing IETT, which added the highest quality and most qualified vehicles to its fleet for its period, is an important issue before us. In 2007, the metrobus service, a very valuable step for Istanbul, was launched. Of course, when we look at today, unfortunately, when we look at the average age of the vehicles on that line, the performance and the mileage calculation, there are vehicles that have completed the service period. We are taking serious steps in the renewal process. We purchased 160 vehicles. When we overcome the obstacles in some technical, administrative and financial processes related to the purchase of 300 vehicles, I hope we will quickly start the process related to the purchases there, in its 150th year. Because Istanbul and Istanbulites urgently need these vehicles -in terms of good service-. We are managing a process that tries to be a solution to the needs and problems of this city, everyone who loves the people of this city, our people. At this point, this is the aim of every work done in Istanbul.”

“WE WILL CONTINUE OUR SERVICE PROCESS WITH RESOLUTION”

Saying, “The existence of our locomotive institutions like IETT and İSKİ, the service journey of IMM that has lasted for centuries, are important elements of this ancient city and ancient culture,” İmamoğlu concluded his speech with the following words:

“Our Metropolitan Municipality, which provides daily service to our 16 million people, with other guests, asylum seekers, tourists, and actually close to 20 million people, needs a self-sacrificing, meticulous and well-planned service process. When you reinforce this with discipline and supervision, you present a near-perfect process to the people of Istanbul. Serving such a city is a very spiritual pleasure, a very precious feeling. We live and feel it deeply. This responsibility, no matter which institution or organization of our state, is responsible for acting in the most sensitive way and doing what is necessary in order not to delay the service when a matter or decision regarding Istanbul comes before it. In this respect, we will continue our determination to maximize this satisfaction with our service process. I sincerely thank each and every member of the IETT family of approximately 15 thousand people, serving the city, from women to men, to all our employees. I congratulate the 150th Anniversary of IETT with the belief that I hope it will carry this service quality to higher levels.”

The gala ended with the works played by the Hakan Şensoy Symphonic Orchestra.
