Continuing to weave Turkey with its railway networks, the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) has passed another big threshold in the Ankara-İzmir High Speed Train Project, which all Turkey has been waiting for. Within the scope of the project, the T-1 Tunnel in Eşme-Salihli Section was opened with a ceremony.

The Eşme-Salihli Section T1 Tunnel, whose excavations started in March, was opened with a light-seeing ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu. Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that the tunnel was completed in a record time of 206 days.

The tunnel is Turkey's first tunnel that includes both railway and security roads in a single tube. In addition, the tunnel is the TBM tunnel with the largest diameter in Turkey. With the realization of the Ankara-İzmir HT Project, high-speed train operations will be possible on Ankara, İzmir, İstanbul, Konya, Eskişehir, Afyonkarahisar, Uşak, Kırıkkale, Yozgat and Sivas routes.

Drawing attention to Turkey's railway breakthrough in his speech at the ceremony, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that they have developed domestic and national capabilities in the railways, in which more than 2003 billion liras have been invested during their government since 212.

Karaismailoğlu stated that the test processes of the National Electric Train set with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour have been completed, that mass production will begin in 2022, and that they will complete the design work for the National High Speed Train with a speed of 225 kilometers per hour and will come to the prototype production stage next year. He stated that they aim to reach 12 kilometers and increase the annual number of passengers, which is 803 million for the High Speed Train lines, to 28 million.

Karaismailoğlu stated that the work continues on the 3 thousand 515 kilometer high-speed train line and that the Ankara-Afyonkarahisar-Uşak-Manisa-Izmir High Speed Train line, which is among them, consists of 6 stages and 508 kilometers between Polatlı and Menemen, "Ankara-İzmir Fast Train, which has 5 stations, Our Train Project includes 41 tunnels of 49 thousand meters and 23 viaducts of 100 thousand 56 meters. We have completed 42,4 percent of the infrastructure works in our project. When all sections are completed, the distance between Ankara and İzmir will decrease from 824 kilometers to 624 kilometers, and the travel time will be reduced from 14 hours to 3,5 hours. The Eşme-Salihli section of our project, which includes 21 viaducts and 25 tunnels, is 74,4 kilometers long. Our T-1 tunnel here is Turkey's first tunnel, in which the railway and security tunnel were built as two floors in a single section. It is also the largest tunnel made with TBM technique in Turkey. In other words, while the high-speed train goes on the upper floor of our tunnel, ambulance transportation will be provided on the lower floor. Today we see the light in our 3 thousand 47 meters long T-1 tunnel.”

“A HARD RECORD TO BREAK”

Karaismailoğlu, who stated that the excavation diameter of the tunnel, which is designed as a railway line on the upper floor and a safety tunnel on the lower floor, is 13,77 meters and the inner diameter of the coating concrete is 12,50 meters, also drew attention to the construction period and said: We started this year on March 20. We completed it in a short time like 206 days and broke a world record that is hard to break. With this tunnel construction, we showed the world how successful the Turkish contracting industry, engineers and employees can be under difficult conditions.”

Providing information about the tunnel works, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş said, “I greet you all with respect and love from this ceremony, where we will witness the efforts and efforts for the happiness we have brought and brought. Our railways, with the strong vision of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; continues to sign new achievements and new projects. We are in the Eşme – Salihli section of 74,4 kilometers of our Ankara İzmir High Speed Train Project, which is one of them. In this chapter; There are 21 viaducts and 25 tunnels. The T-1 tunnel, which we are at the exit, is the longest tunnel of the project with 3 thousand 47 meters. At the same time, the tunnel excavation diameter is 13,77 meters, the segment is the largest TBM tunnel in Turkey with an outer diameter of 13,40 meters and an inner diameter of 12,50 meters. Again, it is Turkey's first tunnel that includes both railway and security roads in a single tube. The area under the railway platform in the tunnel was evaluated and the security road was solved in this section. On the security road, which can also be used for evacuation with emergency vehicles, our high-speed train lines are located. Our workers and engineers sometimes dug 32,4 meters in one day and opened the tunnel in a total of 206 days, breaking a record that is hard to break in the world. Our work in our T-1 Tunnel, which is the work of a Turkish engineer and worker, started on March 20, 2021 with the presence of our Minister and has reached the stage of seeing the light in a period of approximately 6 months. Here, I would like to express my gratitude to our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Adil Karaismailoğlu, for his intense interest and support for our railways.” said.

After the speeches, Minister Karaismaioğlu and the protocol members started the TBM by pressing the buttons. After the light appeared in the tunnel opened by the tunnel drilling machine, the members of the protocol had a souvenir photo taken.
