The 98th anniversary of the Liberation of Istanbul was celebrated with an official ceremony held at the Taksim Republic Monument. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, his feelings, in the Memorial Special Notebook, “The founder of our Republic, St. Atatürk; The liberation of our Istanbul from the enemy occupation on October 6, 1923 is a turning point for the independence of our nation. To this magnificent city where 16 million of our citizens live; We are honored to work to provide fair and equal service and to move Istanbul forward among contemporary cities.”

Istanbul was liberated on 4 October 10 by the Turkish army under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, after the enemy occupation lasting 23 years, 6 months and 1923 days. The 98th anniversary of the Liberation of Istanbul was celebrated with a ceremony held at the Taksim Republic Monument. Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya, Commander of the 1st Army and Istanbul Garrison Lieutenant General Kemal Yeni and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğluThe ceremony, which was held with the participation of . Later, Yerlikaya, Yeni and İmamoğlu, respectively, laid wreaths on behalf of their institutions at the Monument of the Republic. After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's message was read, İmamoğlu first read the messages they wrote in the Yerlikaya Memorial Special Book.

In his message, İmamoğlu said, “The founder of our Republic, St. Atatürk; The liberation of our Istanbul from the enemy occupation on October 6, 1923 is a turning point for the independence of our nation. On the 98th Anniversary of this blessed day, we commemorate you and your fellow fighters with gratitude. We commemorate our martyrs and veterans who put their lives on the road to independence with mercy and gratitude. As one of our most sacred relics, we will forever protect the holy city of Istanbul, which was gifted to our nation by Fatih Sultan Mehmet and saved from the enemy occupation by our heroic army led by you. To this magnificent city where 16 million of our citizens live; We are honored to work to provide fair and equal service and to move Istanbul forward among contemporary cities. I bow respectfully in front of your cherished memory, and on behalf of my 16 million citizens of Istanbul, I offer my most sincere respects.” The ceremony ended with the performance of the İBB Military Band.
