Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) transformed the old slaughterhouse building in Güngören Gençosman Neighborhood into the “Güngören Culture and Life Center”. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlumade a speech at the opening of the center. Stating that Güngören has a special place in his own life, İmamoğlu said, “We had the opportunity to do a job in Güngören Industrial District for the first time. Our family property still stands there. After that, KadıköyWe moved our company headquarters in . Then, I had the opportunity to do business in a different sector in Güngören. I ran a restaurant. I sold meatballs. Therefore, I am someone who has experiences in Güngören with its beautiful people. I can say that almost every day of my life between 1992-2003 was spent in Güngören”. Emphasizing that Güngören is a person who knows the difficulties, İmamoğlu said, “It is one of the districts with the least green area per capita in Istanbul. So very little. We have an obligation to take steps to improve, beautify and transform all the troubled areas of our city.
“There are districts where we have troubles in building nurseries”
Expressing that the 7-class kindergarten they established within the Güngören Culture and Life Center, which they opened, has been operating since last May, İmamoğlu said, “I am very happy that our children are receiving education here, in the heart of Güngören. The districts where we have the most difficulty in building nurseries are districts such as Güngören and Bağcılar. We both have difficulties in finding land and sometimes we have difficulties in being in solidarity with some municipalities. But we are still walking the road with the determination of being able to gift one hundred and fifty kindergartens to Istanbul.”
“THE PROCESS WAS MATURED WITH THE MUNICIPALITY OF GÜNGÖREN”
Expressing that the Culture and Life Center will also be used as a wedding hall by Güngören Municipality, İmamoğlu said, “We have matured the process in a partnership and solidarity. Unfortunately, such constructions between the Metropolitan Municipality and the district municipalities had a lack of response. My friends identified these processes. Almost every district has this, and we have ensured that such works and cultural areas in these districts are connected to a protocol with a consensus, a philosophy of common use, and we have eliminated this problem in almost all of them. Currently, in this structure, it has become clear what, how and when our district municipality Güngören Municipality will use and how other areas will be operated by our Metropolitan Municipality. This was a previously neglected issue. In that respect, I also care about both institutions managing and solving the process by consensus in this sense.” Stating that Güngören Mayor Bünyamin Demir could not attend the opening due to health problems, İmamoğlu said, “We convey our best wishes. Therefore, I would like to point out that this dialogue and solidarity between institutions and process solution with a common mind is valuable.”
“WE CARE TO MANAGE A PROCESS IN SOLIDARITY”
Giving examples of the work they have done in many areas, from the solution desks to the urban transformation problem in Güngören to the investments of İSKİ in the district, İmamoğlu said, "As in all our districts, we care about managing a process in solidarity with the districts in the planning processes." Referring to the 98th anniversary of the Republic, İmamoğlu said in his speech, “We have lessons to learn as we go to the second century of our Republic. In my opinion, democracy is the most important achievement of our republic,” he said. Defining democracy as the attainment of a government system that treats each individual equally, İmamoğlu said:

Politics is a tool, not a goal, to serve the state and nation of political institutions. People who make politics are, of course, an institutional individual, a part of the political parties they are in. But the main thing is to serve the nation, serve the country, serve the state. In these seats we are in for service, we are obliged to show the virtue and foresight of doing the right thing, doing the good, doing the good, treating every individual equally, regardless of party or view, without being under any political pressure. “WE SHOULD STRENGTHEN OUR WALK TO THE LIGHTWEIGHT”
Emphasizing that he loves the people of this country without discrimination, İmamoğlu said, “With what identity? I look at the second year of the Republic with my nose and with this eye. I wish and want the building we opened in Güngören to serve in this way.”
PLAYED TABLE TENNIS WITH MUHTAR
İmamoğlu cut the opening ribbon together with CHP Istanbul deputies Sibel Özdemir, Turan Aydoğan, IMM senior management and muhtars. Visiting the center, İmamoğlu played table tennis with Gençosman Neighborhood Headman Selahattin Kefelioğlu, causing colorful moments to be experienced. The center, which also hosts the “Home Istanbul” kindergarten with 7 classrooms and a capacity of 140 people, includes an invitation and meeting room for 450 people. Established on an area of 23 thousand square meters, the campus has a landscape area of 6 thousand 623 square meters. There is also a parking lot for 176 vehicles on the campus.
