Hyundai, TUCSON, IONIQ 5 and BAYON models have succeeded in crash tests by the independent vehicle evaluation organization Euroncap. The three new Hyundai models, which were recently put on the market and peaking their popularity in all markets, achieved the highest scores in all the criteria evaluated. Both TUCSON and IONIQ 5 achieved a maximum five-star safety rating, while BAYON was awarded a four-star rating.
Vehicles that passed the Euro NCAP safety test were evaluated in the following four categories. The vehicles, which were evaluated primarily in terms of "Adult Passenger", "Child Passenger", "Vulnerable Pedestrian" and then "Safety Equipment", showed the best performance in their segments.
The five-star Hyundai TUCSON achieved the best rating, especially between “Adult Passenger” and “Child Passenger”. The IONIQ 5 also achieved excellent results in these categories and “Safety Equipment”. BAYON also showed the best performance in the “Child Passenger” category.
Smart Sense: Hyundai Safety Package
Hyundai models are produced with Hyundai Smart Sense active safety and driving assistance features. In addition to the improved seven airbag systems to keep front seat passengers even safer, New TUCSON's upgraded safety package now also includes Highway Driving Assistant (HDA), Blind Spot Vision Monitor (BVM), Blind Spot Collision Assistant. Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA with Junction turn) help TUCSON keep its speed in check and maintain the distance to the vehicle ahead in traffic and stay in its lane.
Blind Spot Monitoring Assistant (BVM) transferred the rear view to a 10.25-inch digital display when the turn signal was used. Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) also constantly monitors cornering from the rear and warns drivers when another vehicle is detected and applies differential braking when necessary. FCA also brakes autonomously to avoid collisions with other cars, pedestrians and cyclists. The feature now includes the Junction Turn feature, expanding the range of protection to include avoiding collisions at intersections when turning left.
The all-electric IONIQ 5 is also the first Hyundai model to offer Highway Driving Assistance 2 (HDA 2). By combining navigation-based Intelligent Ride Control (NSCC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LFA), HDA 2 uses Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities, making driving on the highway more comfortable. This feature uses front view camera, radar sensors and navigation data to control speed, direction and following distance and help the driver change lanes.
Like new members of the Hyundai SUV family, BAYON prioritizes safety that comes as standard with an extensive list of Smart Sense features. In addition to safer highway driving, it is equipped with Driver Attention Warning (DAW), a system that warns the driver when drowsy or distracted driving is detected. Vehicle Departure Warning (LVDA) warns the driver to move when the vehicle in front is driving through traffic or when the vehicle in front does not react quickly enough.
Hyundai produces models that receive the highest safety rating from the Euro NCAP crash tests conducted annually. The latest additions to these models are the TUCSON and IONIQ 5, while previous Hyundai models that earned their maximum five-star rating include the i30, KONA, SANTA FE, IONIQ and NEXO.
