Organized with the support of Sabancı Holding, the Yesterday Today Istanbul exhibition, which determines the situation about Istanbul through the eyes of photographer Murat Germen and 22 young artists, can be visited by visually and hearing impaired individuals with an accessible content, while visitors with physical disabilities can reach the exhibition areas by using ramps and elevators.
All information boards for visually and hearing impaired individuals were translated into sign language in the accessible exhibition, which was brought to life with the cooperation of Accessible Everything, one of the social initiatives selected for the Sabancı Foundation's Changemakers Program, and with the support of Sabancı Foundation; made audio description recordings for video, installation and visuals. In this context, audio descriptions of the exhibition area and its route were also prepared, and the exhibition became accessible with all the content that visitors can access using the QR code.
The managers of "Everything Accessible", a social enterprise that provides accessibility consultancy for the equal and independent participation of individuals with special needs in life, also conducted a special training for the entire field team working at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum in order to explain the correct communication and behavior methods. The training covered the processes of welcoming, escorting, directing and emergency situations for people with different disability groups.
Yesterday Today Istanbul Exhibition with Murat Germen, Ahu Akgün, Aslı Narin, Begüm Yamanlar, Beril Ece Güler, Burak Dikilitaş, Canan Erbil, Cemre Yeşil Gönenli, Deniz Ezgi Sürek, Didem Erbaş, Ege Kanar, Eren Sulamacı, Eser Epözdemir, Korhan Karaoysal The Justice in Space Association consists of works by Neslihan Koyuncu Bali, Nora Bryne, Onur Özen, Örsan Karakuş, Serkan Taycan, Sıla Ünlü İntepe, Sinan Tuncay and Zeynep Kaynar. The exhibition, in which the artists reflect on the past and present of Istanbul and make a situational assessment of the city, makes the visitors think about the future of Istanbul as well. The works specially prepared for the site contain interpretations of urban dynamics in the light of themes including the environment, animal population, urban transformation, social life, historical places, water resources, transportation and utopia / dystopia concepts.
The Istanbul Today exhibition can be visited until 28 November at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum. The museum, which is closed on Mondays, can be visited free of charge on Tuesdays.
