At the meeting moderated by Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras, representatives of local institutions shared that they will make various contributions within the framework of the events that will take place between October 18-23.

“American Hospital The Bodrum Cup undertakes a very important mission this year”

Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras expressed his views on this year's races at the beginning of the meeting as follows: “It is a hope for all of us that the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup is being brought back to life after the break due to the pandemic last year. There is pessimism in the society due to the disasters we have experienced recently. Such activities and similar studies are very important to keep hopes alive. The goal of the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup committee this year is to draw attention to the fire area. We will be together with all sea and racing enthusiasts in Kissebükü, Mazı and Çökertme regions. That's why I would like to thank the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup committee and everyone who supported it for this year's meaningful organization. The economy of the region suffered greatly due to the fire. Tourism, in particular, has experienced a trauma throughout Bodrum. We had reservation cancellations, people who were on their holiday in Bodrum have returned. We need events that will draw attention to the region again. The American Hospital The Bodrum Cup will undertake a very important mission this year with its track that goes all the way to Çökertme.”

A mission beyond just a sailing race

Süleyman Uysal, President of the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup Organizing Committee; “American Hospital The Bodrum Cup has become one of the biggest festivals not only of Muğla but also of Turkey. American Hospital The Bodrum Cup has undertaken a mission beyond being a sailing race. We have an organizing committee of 75 people who ensure this. It consists entirely of business people who add value to Bodrum and work voluntarily. While the sailing race develops itself at international standards, we also carry out important studies on the promotion of the region. We believe that making this organization better together will not only benefit Muğla but also our country. We wanted to hold a coordination meeting with the institutions by requesting our President, and to make the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup a more integrated organization.”

“We want to be a part of the solidarity shown in the fire”

Uysal continued his words by mentioning that the organization was held in the fire zone in its 33rd year: “We all witnessed how great effort all our local institutions put into the fire zone. There was an operation that we can call unsung heroes. There were fires in many parts of Turkey at the same time and there was an incredible effort here as in many other places, people showed a very good example of solidarity with the institutions. We want to continue this solidarity. We would like to shake hands with everyone who supported physically during the fire and thank them by looking into their eyes.”

This year, the 33rd American Hospital The Bodrum Cup will support the economically damaged businesses in the region with various activities on its route created from the areas damaged by the fire. Thus, he will pay homage to the heroes who contributed to the extinguishing of the fire. In the organization where all necessary precautions will be taken due to COVID-19, the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup family will satisfy their longing with their lovers.

“We accustomed the younger generations to sailing”

After Süleyman Uysal's speech, American Hospital The Bodrum Cup Honorary President Erman Aras took the floor. Aras said, “In our known history, there was boat building and maritime trade in Bodrum. Technology has changed and improved over time. The American Hospital The Bodrum Cup race became a laboratory where all these changing technologies would adapt to boat building. With the new developing technology, sailing has also reached a different point. We had to train young people; because we do maritime trade in Bodrum. This is where the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup came into play. We accustomed the young generation to sailing. We brought together those who know and young people who want to learn. We now have many captains and sailors around us that we are proud of. Our aim is not only to race but to teach to love and protect nature and the sea. This year, we are trying to create an organization that will set an example while the wounds of the fire are healed.” said.

The meeting, which was attended by provincial directors, heads of NGOs and participants from various institutions, ended with suggestions that could contribute and provide support for the American Hospital The Bodrum Cup. The races, which will be dedicated to fire fighters in their 33rd year, were dedicated to healthcare workers due to the pandemic last year.
