Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said, “We have completed all the infrastructure works of Tokat Airport. There is a feverish effort to put the fully-fledged Tokat Airport into service by the end of the year," he said.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, in a statement after the new Tokat Airport construction review, stated that he attended the funeral prayer of Özdemir Bayraktar in Istanbul, and expressed his condolences to Bayraktar's relatives.
Expressing that they will follow in his footsteps with the contributions they will make in the field of aviation, Karaismailoğlu said, “We will conduct a series of investigations in Tokat. As the Ministry, we have very important and valuable works in every corner of Turkey. We exist in every region where there is life, we exist at every point. All our aim is to improve the quality of life of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey, to add comfort to their lives and to meet their transportation needs.
“Our airport terminal is 16 thousand square meters in size”
Karaismailoğlu stated that there are only a few days left for Tokat Airport to come into service, and said, “We have completed all the infrastructure works. It has a runway 60 meters wide and 2 thousand 700 meters long. All planes have an airport runway where they can land. Our airport terminal is 16 thousand square meters in size. There is a feverish effort to put the fully-fledged Tokat Airport into service by the end of the year. As you know, under the leadership of our President, we have made the airlines the way of the people. We increased the airport from 26 to 56. We will increase the number of airports to 61 together with our ongoing airports until 2023," he said.
Emphasizing that they do very valuable work in all areas of transportation, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “We will hold our meetings with wide participation regarding the services of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and ongoing projects in Tokat. We will speed up our ongoing projects and give our instructions for their completion as soon as possible. We will also have the opportunity to evaluate incoming demands and needs. We will conduct inspections at the construction site on the Tokat-Niksar road, one of the most important projects of Tokat. We will consult with our friends so that our project will be completed as soon as possible.”
Reminding that they decided that the historical Hıdırlık Bridge needed restoration during his visit to Tokat last year, Karaismailoğlu said that they were happy to restore the bridge and put it into service.
Expressing that they use the most advanced technologies in the world, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “We protect our history and culture, while making valuable, big projects that the world envy. Repair of historical bridges is one of the most valuable works under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Highways. So far, we have restored more than 300 historical bridges and brought them back to life. We currently have 800 more bridges in our inventory. We have historical bridges whose projects and productions are still ongoing. Hopefully, we will restore them in accordance with their original form and add richness to Turkey's history and culture. While doing the world's biggest technological works, we also protect our history and culture and bring back to life our works that have served for centuries.”
During his examinations, Minister Karaismailoğlu was accompanied by Tokat Governor Ozan Balcı, AK Party Tokat Deputies Mustafa Arslan, Yusuf Beyazıt, Mayor Eyüp Eroğlu, AK Party Tokat Provincial Chairman Cüneyt Aldemir and party members.
Tokat Airport
The airport in Tokat, which was built in 1995 and closed to flights in 2001, was reopened in 2006. Flights suspended in 2008 resumed in 2010. In April 2017, after the bankruptcy of the small-bodied aircraft company, the airport was closed to scheduled flights.
Due to the runway and infrastructure problems, medium and large-bodied planes could not land at the airport, which was brought to the agenda in previous years with the news that "the runway is short in length and curved in direction", and flights were canceled especially on foggy days. The minaret of the Küçükbağlar village near the airport was shortened in 2008 on the grounds that it posed a risk to flight safety.
Due to the risk that the existing airport poses for flight safety, the construction of a new airport in the city started in 2018. The new airport, the construction of which has been completed to a large extent, will have a modern structure. The new airport, which has an apron with a parking capacity of 7 aircraft, where large-bodied aircraft and cargo aircraft can land, and with a runway length of 2 meters, will also be suitable for international flights.
In recent years, due to the cessation of flights, those living in Tokat had to go to the surrounding cities, especially using Sivas Nuri Demirağ Airport.
