The official marriage authority granted to the mufti in order to facilitate the marriage procedures and reduce the bureaucracy attracted great attention from the citizens. 38 thousand 53 marriage contracts were carried out by the provincial and district mufti offices.
With the Law No. 7039 on the Amendment of some Laws and the Law on Population Services, the Law No. 5490 on Population Services was amended in 2017, and with this regulation, the authority and duty of marriage officer was given to the provincial and district mufti. With the amendment made in the Marriage Regulation, it was regulated that our Ministry would determine which mufti offices could have civil marriages.
38 thousand 53 weddings were held by the mufti
This amendment, which gave the mufti offices the authority to perform civil marriages, received great demand from the citizens. Since the beginning of the practice, a total of 38.053 civil marriages were held by the mufti.
Diyarbakir took the first place
Diyarbakir was the province with the highest number of marriage contracts among provincial and district mufti offices. In Diyarbakir, 3.547 couples got married. Diyarbakir respectively;
- Istanbul with 3.258,
- Ankara with 1.855,
- Konya with 1.720,
- Van with 1.402,
- Mardin with 1.249,
- Kahramanmaraş followed with 1.074.
