Planning to strengthen its operational staff, Emirates plans to hire more than 6000 staff in the next six months. As restrictions are eased around the world, thanks to wider application of the vaccine, additional pilots, cabin crew, technical experts and ground handling personnel will be needed to support the airline's expansion of its global network operations in response to higher passenger demand sooner than anticipated.
Emirates has already restored 90% of its network and is on track to reach 2021% of its pre-pandemic capacity by the end of 70. The world's largest international airline is increasing the frequency of its flight schedules to meet rising demand. It also operates high-capacity, double-decker A380 aircraft on popular routes in its network. Emirates will offer over 380 additional seats on its flagship A165.000 by November.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Said Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline, said in a statement: “Emirates has always been at the heart of Dubai's development. Our need for 6000 additional operations staff symbolizes the rapid recovery of Dubai's economy and will bring opportunities and other positive developments across many other businesses, including businesses in the consumer, travel and tourism sectors.
We are cautiously restoring our operations in line with the reopening of borders and the relaxation of travel protocols, and hope to return to our pre-pandemic position by mid-2022, with positive economic recovery indicators and ever-increasing demand.”
In September, Emirates launched a worldwide campaign to recruit 3000 cabin crew and 500 airport services staff to work at its Dubai headquarters to support the operational needs of the travel industry recovery. With travel demand picking up faster than initial projections, Emirates needs an additional 700 ground handling staff in Dubai and across its network.
As part of its recruitment goal, Emirates also aims to strengthen its technical team by hiring 1200 skilled technical personnel, including aircraft engineers and technical support staff, to work at Dubai-based and overseas stations. Emirates has the largest fleets of Boeing 777 and Airbus 380s in the world. The airline, whose fleet currently consists of 263 wide-body aircraft, has ordered many new aircraft to meet future demand, including Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 777-X aircraft.
All of Emirates' Boeing 777 aircraft are in active service and fly to more than 120 destinations on both passenger and cargo flights. In addition, the airline, which flies to 380 cities with its flagship A18, plans to increase this number by more than 65% soon to reach 27 destinations by the end of November. By December, deliveries of the last two A380s will be completed, joining the Emirates fleet, with around 380 of the A50s returning to active service.
Over 200 nationalities call Dubai their home, as Dubai's cultural diversity, tax exemption conditions, and leading living, working and leisure infrastructure continue to attract people from around the world.
While Dubai's strong response to the epidemic has been successful with the country's strong leadership team and effective public and private partnerships to reach the target, it is consistently shown among the countries that are fighting the epidemic most effectively in the world. Rapid vaccination and clear outbreak protocols in the United Arab Emirates have enabled Dubai to quickly and safely reopen to international tourism and business activities since July 2020. Currently, 86% of the UAE population have received a full dose of vaccine against COVID-19, and over 96% have received at least one dose. The country ranks first in the world in terms of the number of vaccines administered per 100 people.
