exp. bio. Çiğdem Üregen gave information about the subject. Many of us grew up with the teachings of our families that we must drink milk, that it is almost a necessity for our height to grow and our development to be complete. Maybe many of us do a similar practice to our children, motivate them to drink milk, maybe even force them. Studies have enlightened us that cow/ buffalo/goat milk is not as useful a food as we think, and even it does more harm than good.

We all know how important and irreplaceable it is for the human baby to feed newborn babies with breast milk. The situation is similar for animals like cow/goat/buffalo, their milk is extremely nutritious and beneficial but this is the case for their own offspring, not humans! Because, after the early childhood period is over, the production of "lactase" enzyme that will digest the "lactose" found in cow's milk at a high rate stops in the body of 70% of people. Therefore, when many adults drink milk, the milk sugar (lactose) that passes into the intestines without being digested is broken down by the bacteria there, which causes excessive gas, indigestion, abdominal pain and sometimes diarrhea. This condition, referred to as lactose intolerance, is not the only harmful consequence of drinking milk.

Milk is a nutrient rich in protein and calcium, but this content will not show that it is beneficial for our health, and many scientific studies have shown that animal milk has great harm to human health.

Contrary to popular belief, the high amount of calcium in milk is not good for bones, on the contrary, excess of it increases bone fractures.

In a group study conducted by Karl Michaëlsson and his friends in Sweden in 2014, it was shown that;

Compared to those who drank less than one glass of milk a day and those who drank more than three glasses of milk a day, those who drank a lot of milk had 60% more hip fractures.

In addition, in the same study, it was concluded that cow's milk increased the risk of dying from heart attack by 15% and the risk of dying from cancer by 7% in women. According to this study, those who drank more than three glasses of milk a day had a 93% greater risk of dying from cancer than those who drank less than one glass.

A review published in the Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology concluded that children who drank too much milk during childhood were at increased risk of future allergies.

According to the results of the study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2009, the risk of prostate cancer in men who drink a lot of milk and ovarian cancer in women increases significantly when compared to the group that does not drink.

According to American biochemist Dr. T. Colin Campbell, milk is one of the most harmful foods we consume.

In his research, Campbell emphasized that "casein", which is the main protein substance of milk, is a serious carcinogen. The substance called “casomorphin” is released from the breakdown of casein and affects the brain. Since this is a kind of "morphine" derivative, it increases the dependence on milk and dairy products.

In addition, milk intolerance is known to cause skin problems such as acne, rash, and redness or irritation.
