Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, who watched the demolition of the building collapsed in seconds, said, “We do not only remove bad buildings that distort the silhouette of the inns area. It also shows how rotten the buildings are. It is also obvious that we are making a very healthy urban transformation.”
Demolition work continues rapidly in the Historical Bazaar and Hanlar Region Çarşıbaşı Urban Design Project, prepared by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and supported by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The process, which started with the demolition of the Red Crescent building in August last year with the participation of the Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum, continued with the demolition of the İşkur, Central Bank building, 15 shops surrounding the tomb behind the Brass Inn, 4 buildings in the interior and 2 buildings on the main street. he did. While the Great Mosque and inns, which were not seen on Cemal Nadir Street before, emerged in all their glory after the demolitions, another 240-storey building with a floor area of 7 square meters was demolished. With a few touches of the construction machine, the building was destroyed by a cloud of dust, and an area of approximately 28 square meters has emerged with the demolition of 3500 buildings so far.
History comes to light
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş also watched the last demolition carried out within the scope of the project that will reveal the historical silhouette of the city. Expressing that the works to bring history to light continue in Bursa, Mayor Aktaş said, “Bursa, the sycamore of the Ottomans, stands up again with its historical values. The inns area, which started in the 14th century and became perfect in the 16th century, is a liveable area on an area of 480 decares with its inn, covered bazaar, Uucami and mosques, shopping areas, tombs and schools. Efforts to revive this area of Bursa, which we call the old city, where the Ottomans were founded, are continuing rapidly. As per the project we announced before, with the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum, while the expropriation works continue, we are carrying out demolitions without interrupting normal life. “It breaks down like a cheese mold”
Noting that the process that started with the destruction of the Red Crescent, İş-Kur and Central Bank Building continues rapidly, President Aktaş said, “Now we continue with the buildings belonging to the people we expropriated. This week, teams demolished 5 more 7-storey and 2-storey buildings. Other demolitions will take place shortly. We didn't just reveal the bad buildings that ruined the silhouette of the inn district. Believe me, I think we are doing people a huge favor. If they have seen the demolition process, they will understand how buildings collapse like a cheese block when a few columns are touched. We were asked to demolish buildings, layer by layer. However, when you touch a few corners of the building, we see that the buildings have collapsed. Without the adjacent buildings, it is not possible to survive in a small earthquake. It is obvious that we have made a very healthy urban transformation.”
Emphasizing that they have demolished 28 buildings and created an area of 3 square meters to date, Mayor Aktaş said, “We will have completely uncovered the area until the Ulucami. There is a modern, developing and industrializing Bursa. But we continue to revive Bursa, which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire, with its history.”
