Application for Change of Name and Surname in e State

A new service has been added to the e-Government system. With the decision of the Provincial/District Administrative Board, applications for the correction of the name or surname can be made through the e-Government.

The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs added a new e-service to the e-Government Gateway with the "Receiving Applications for Name or Surname Correction with the Decision of the Provincial/District Administrative Board". As a result of the amendment made in the Population Services Law No. 17.10.2017 on 5490, provided that the person applies in writing to the population directorate where the settlement is located within two years; It was possible to change the names and surnames written in violation of Article 3 of the Surname Law, with spelling and spelling errors or meaning changes due to the use of correction marks, to be changed once, without seeking a court decision, with the decision of the provincial and district administrative board.

The period determined by the temporary article added to the Population Services Law No. 6 with the Law on Amending Certain Laws and the Decree Law No. 2019 on 375 December 5490 was extended for another 3 years. In addition, after the expiry of the period determined for the validity of the article, if there is a need for an extension of time again, the Presidency can extend the period without making a change in the law. In addition, with the new provision added to the article, it was possible to change the names, which are not suitable for general morality and considered ridiculous by the society, by the provincial or district administrative boards without seeking a court decision.

275.808 People Changed Their Surnames and 121.065 People Changed Their Names

With these regulations, the workload of the courts for the correction of names and surnames was reduced and bureaucratic processes were shortened. In this way, 2017 people have corrected their surnames and 275.808 people have corrected their names since 121.065.

Our citizens will be able to benefit from the application, which allows changing the names and surnames, which have changes in meaning due to spelling and spelling errors or not using a correction mark, which are not suitable for general morality, which are considered ridiculous by the society, without seeking a court decision, with the decision of the provincial and district administrative board, until 6 December 2022. .
