The Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) invites everyone to run in the 43rd Istanbul Marathon to support the A Future that Reads project. Children in need will be brought together with books with the support collected for a Future that Reads in the Charity Run. Runners who have registered for the marathon can start collecting support for AÇEV's A Future that Reads project through the 'Run for Goodness' platform of Step by Step, starting from October 11, 2021. Those who cannot participate in the marathon can sign up for the virtual run and provide support for a Reader Future from all over Turkey.
Emphasizing that they aim to reach 100 thousand children across Turkey with the A Future that Reads project, AÇEV General Manager Senem Başyurt said:
“5 percent of children in the 6-71 age group in Turkey either do not have children's books at home or there are not enough children's books. We can say that 4 out of 3 children lack the necessary pre-school education tools. According to scientific research, children from high socioeconomic families hear 4 million words when they reach the age of 45, while children from low socioeconomic levels hear only 13 million words. There is a huge gap of 32 million words. As AÇEV, we invite everyone to run in the 43rd Istanbul Marathon in support of A Future that Reads. Let's turn our steps into colorful children's books together.”
Celebrities support the project by reading books
Stating that the A Future that reads project, which started on the field five years ago, was moved to a digital platform in April 2021 with the pandemic, Başyurt said:
“Beren Saat, Cem Yılmaz, Demet Evgar, Fatih Türkmenoğlu, Genco Erkal, Selçuk Method, Songül Öden and Yekta Kopan supported our project, the music of which was composed by Fazıl Say, by reading books to children. At the same time, experts and writers such as Ayfer Gürdal Ünal, Bahar Eriş, Gülçin Alpöge, Sevda Mustafaoğlu took part in the project with the books they read. With the A Future that Reads platform, which we have prepared to support children's language development, creativity and imagination, we aim to both inspire parents and give children the habit of reading books."
It is possible to run for AÇEV from anywhere in Turkey
Physical running applications for the 7rd Istanbul Marathon, which will take place on November 2021, 43, continue until Friday, October 22. AÇEV runners participating in the marathon can become members of the 'Run for Goodness' platform of Adim Adim, and collect donations.
