IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, toured the building, which was built using Turkey's first 3D concrete printer technology, all of which were produced by İSTON with domestic facilities. For the building, which stands out with its high heat and sound insulation and environmentally friendly technology, a printable C3/50 class concrete mortar was developed specifically for 60D printer technology. After making an examination tour in the area under construction with robot arms, İmamoğlu made an assessment to the members of the press and said, “We are talking about a very new application technologically. A first in Turkey. Very precious and valuable. As someone who comes from this sector, I can feel that such a practice, such a fast manufacturing capability is very valuable. Maybe we are talking about a 100 square meter building here, but the front of this business is very clear. I feel it,” he said.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluvisited the construction site of the İBB Parks and Gardens Directorate Üsküdar Chief Office, which İSTON (İstanbul Beton Elements and Ready Mixed Concrete Factories AŞ), one of the İBB subsidiaries, continues to build in İstanbul Çamlıca. İmamoğlu made an assessment to the members of the press after visiting the building, which will be Turkey's first structure built using 3D concrete printer technology when finished.
A FIRST IN TURKEY
Stating that İSTON has been conducting the study for a long time, İmamoğlu said, “Actually, we are talking about a very new application in terms of technology. A first in Turkey. Very precious and valuable. As someone who comes from this sector, I can feel that such a practice, such a fast manufacturing capability is very valuable.”
Emphasizing that he toured the construction site in surprise, İmamoğlu said, “Because, after all, I grew up in some traditional practices and did a lot of work. But here, as you can see, there is a robotic arm. And there is an application that runs this mechanism. At the back, there is a system that allows it to be concrete again. Mold cost, labor cost. He said, “We manufacture a building with a system in which some hesitations about safety and occupational safety are almost completely eliminated or savings are achieved.”
CONCRETE QUALITY IS AT C50-C60 LEVEL
Emphasizing that the technology is very new and that there is no standard for the building system, İmamoğlu continued as follows:
“Therefore, there is a process that may become even more economical. The strength of the structure and the concrete quality are at the C50-C60 level. This is a very valuable flavor. In other words, none of the structures we know now have such a consistency. This robotic arm, the software, is our manufacture. My friends are going with a hundred percent local understanding. Concrete is our production, and there will probably be demand for this concrete also from domestic and abroad. There are negotiations and demands.”
IN THE WORLD'S SEEKING ECO-FRIENDLY BUILDING
Talking about the high costs in the construction sector, İmamoğlu said, “The search for environmentally friendly manufacturing, from iron to many things, to materials, should also be in the construction sector. Because, in one way or another, some elements such as metal, iron and steel, become costly. This is a new technological step in the world's search for environmentally friendly buildings," he said.
NO NEED FOR EXTRA INSULATION
Providing information about the properties of the produced concrete and the wall, İmamoğlu said, “The insulation part impressed me again. In terms of both sound and heat insulation - there is a construction technique that provides a very high level of sound insulation when we look at decibel amounts - you can finish the building with this construction system without the need for extra insulation even when applied in very cold geographies. As you can see, while window and door forms are produced with this technique, it is perhaps close to perfect in terms of architecture and aesthetics.” Emphasizing that the work can be done much faster with new technology, İmamoğlu continued his words as follows:
“The stipulated time for this structure is fifteen days. They can even reduce it to seven or eight days with two machines. It is very advantageous. In other words, there is a strict 15 percent cost difference especially in workmanship. I can see that when some more tolerances are studied, they will reduce these costs even more.”
I AM PROUD OF ISTON
Noting that he has been following the works of İSTON closely for a long time, İmamoğlu said, “We are really proud of its general manager and delegation. They do very valuable work. We are a company with a high potential to rise to higher levels in the ranking of Turkey's most valuable companies. We have many friends who have served İSTON from the past to the present. During this period, we increased that momentum very high. A firm in Istanbul should do much bigger things. Its turnover should increase, but it should also be talked about in the market, be a pioneer, with its R&D and incorporation of new technologies into the process. He should be able to take steps that others dare not. I am sure that he will do very valuable work in this respect. I was very excited,” he said.
THIS JOB IS OPEN
Stating that they will see the finished version of the building, which is under construction soon, İmamoğlu concluded his speech as follows:
“I'm sure that now, when some more architectural details are added to the work through the forms given by this branch, you have taken a look here, think of it as a facade finished with art and aesthetics inside the building. Outside, even the current one will give a very beautiful facade appearance. It can be passed with a paint. It cannot be touched at all. I would like to thank İSTON for the step they have taken in production with this 3D concrete printer technology. Maybe we are talking about a 100 square meter building here, but the front of this business is very clear. I feel it.”
VISITED THE BUILDING, GET INFORMATION
After his statement, Mayor İmamoğlu toured the building, which is still under construction, and closely examined the walls built by robotic arms. During the visit, İmamoğlu was accompanied by İBB Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar, President Advisors Ertan Yıldız, and İSTON General Manager Ziya Gökmen Gökay.
3D ROBOTIC PRINTER
The first 100D robotic printer capable of printing concrete in Turkey, produced by İSTON with 3% Turkish capital.
The 6-axis robotic arm was made mobile with the developed tracked undercarriage A mobile concrete batching plant was developed by ISTON that can produce the concrete mortar used in the printer. It is possible to construct a structure with on-site manufacturing in the desired city and region. İSTON has developed a printable concrete mortar specifically for 3D printer technology. Patent applications have been made for the developed special mortar, the official examination processes are continuing. 1.5 million TL including software, training, mortar production, materials. Approximately 400 thousand TL incentives were received from EU funds. 600 thousand TL incentive is in the evaluation phase.
PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE
It is produced additively, without the need for concrete molds. The concrete, which is pumped in a liquid consistency, hardens immediately after printing and can carry its own weight. It has high strength and concrete strength is in C50/60 class. With its 45 dB sound reduction index, it also stands out with its sound insulation.
