The 21st International Fethiye Ölüdeniz Air Games started with the opening ceremony held at the Babadağ 1700 runway. Fethiye District Governor Eyüp Fırat, Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca, Fethiye Chief Public Prosecutor Ünal Bingül, President of Heavy Penal Court Abdulkadir Ungan, Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly President Mustafa Büyükteke, Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry Deputy Chairman Mete Ay, Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) Fethiye Branch President and Fethiye Power Union (FGB) Manager Mustafa Özkaya, FTSO Assembly member and FGB Director Selamettin Yılmaz, KIRTUR company owner Kenan Kıran, Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) Aviation Training Manager Burçin Karataş, THK Organization Branches Manager Gökhan Kavlak , Fethiye protocol, representatives of political parties, NGO representatives, aerobatic pilots and many citizens attended.
In his speech at the ceremony, THK Fethiye Branch President and Fethiye Power Union Manager Mustafa Özkaya emphasized that Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry Osman Çıralı could not attend the opening ceremony because he was at the YOREX fair held in Antalya, and said, “Mr. Osman Çıralı conveyed his respect and greetings to all of you. Mustafa Büyükteke, Chairman of the Assembly of our Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mete Ay, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Selamettin Yılmaz from our Fethiye Power Union Board of Directors are among us, representing our Chamber and the FGB.”
Explaining that FTSO, with a serious breakthrough, established Fethiye Power Union Limited Company in 2011 and leased Babadağ from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Babadağ cable car project was tendered, Mustafa Özkaya said that the cable car project to Babadağ, the apple of the eye of Fethiye and the world's leading paragliding center, was awarded. He thanked everyone who contributed to its delivery. Referring to THK's work on tandem pilots, Özkaya said, “Today, we have nearly 400 tandem pilots here. These pilots did a great job in 2011 and we ensured that all our pilots were certified. Today, all our tandem pilots received T2 certificate. Our guests from different parts of the world can fly from Babadağ with a unique view. THK, which established Turkey's first and only aviation university in 2011 and whose vision and mission is to train pilots, will continue to take bigger steps. I wish the 21st International Oludeniz Air Games to be successful.” he said.
Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca, in his speech, underlined that the 21st International Ölüdeniz Air Games will be the first in the world and gave information about their efforts to promote Fethiye.
Babadag is the number one track in the world
Emphasizing that Babadağ paragliding runway is the number one runway in the world, Fethiye District Governor Eyüp Fırat said, “Ölüdeniz and Babadağ are both close to the mountain and the mountain rises directly parallel to the sea, and the wind can be taken in every area suitable for these weather games, the weather conditions are humid, air sports can be done. It is the number one track in the world, which contains all the necessary conditions for As Fethiye District Governor, I would like to thank our Fethiye Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and all the stakeholders who contributed to our Kırtur company, which brought this runway and this beautiful facility here. I wish success to my fellow athletes as well.” he said.
The 24st International Fethiye Ölüdeniz Air Games, which will continue until October 21, brings together the best aerobatic pilots in different branches of air sports in Fethiye. Within the scope of the Ölüdeniz Air Games, in which hundreds of aerobatic pilots from different countries participate, batman and low altitude free jumps, high speed small paragliding shows, motorized paragliding by the Turkish Aeronautical Association, mosquito, microlight and hot air balloon shows will be held. On Sunday, October 24, at 15.30, the Turkish Stars team of the Turkish Air Force will perform a demonstration flight over the skies of Calis Beach.
