Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli: “We understand the value of water more and more every day in our country, which is under the influence of climate change. In this context, we will complete the Water Council work that we have been carrying out for 6 months with the participation of all our stakeholders and we will take action quickly.”

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli said that the negative effects of climate change and global warming have begun to be felt in all social and economic fields, especially in agricultural activities. Pointing out that the value of water is better understood for this reason, Minister Pakdemirli said, "Increasing social awareness about the correct and efficient use of water for the purpose, education and awareness-raising activities is one of our most important strategies."

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli made statements regarding the first Water Council in the history of the Republic. Within the scope of the Water Council, in 11 different working groups, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, 66 academicians from 141 universities, participants from 38 national non-governmental organizations, representatives of relevant public institutions and organizations, representatives of metropolitan municipalities, representatives from water and sewerage administrations, 32 private sectors and water users. He noted that a total of 1631 participants presented their ideas and suggestions. Pakdemirli also said:

“Within the scope of the Water Council, we will carry out awareness activities on the efficient use of water. At the same time, we will draw a framework for the effective use and management of water in industry and municipalities. The Water Council is an important platform that aims to manage water from a single source. The basis of the water law, which is planned to be enacted in order to achieve the goal of one-stop management, will be formed with the common mind of all stakeholders.”

RESULT REPORT WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN OCTOBER

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli reminded that the Water Council works started in April and said, “The Working Groups completed their activities between May and August. We will organize the XNUMXst Water Council Meeting in October and then announce the results of the council to the public.”

WATER LAW IS COMING

Minister Pakdemirli stated that they also prepared the Water Law simultaneously in line with the needs for the realization of the decisions of the XNUMXst Water Council and said, “We would like to present the Water Law to the Parliament together with the final declaration we will submit to our President. With this law, one-handed management and coordination of water will be ensured. We will bring regulations to agriculture, industry and domestic water consumption. Thus, we will feel the effects of factors such as climate change and global warming to a minimum. “He said.​ ​
