IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu; He attended the 'TBM Transition Ceremony' held on the 3-kilometer Umraniye Ataşehir Göztepe Metro Line, which will pass through 11 districts, with 13 stations. Speaking at the ceremony held for the completion of 2 TBM devices at the same time, a first in the city's metro construction history, İmamoğlu said, “Solving Istanbul's transportation problems perhaps means finding a solution to Istanbul's most up-to-date, deepest and most important problem. Especially in the fight against climate change, which is today's agenda; Istanbul is making one of the most important metro breakthroughs in the world in terms of environmentally friendly, fast and comfortable metro constructions.

Its construction was stopped by the old administration in 2017, and its reconstruction was started on 20 September 2019 by the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Ekrem İmamoğlu A new phase has been reached in the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe Metro Line, which was initiated by As a first in the city's subway construction history, 2 TBMs (Tunel Boring Machine) completed their mission at the same time. Speaking at the ceremony held for the passage of TBMs reaching Ümraniye on the north axis of the line and Sahrayıcedit Stations on the south axis, İmamoğlu emphasized that solving the city's transportation problem means finding a solution to Istanbul's most current, deep and important problem.

“WE ARE THE CITY THAT MADE THE MOST RAIL SYSTEM IN THE WORLD AT THE SAME TIME”

Especially in the fight against climate change, which is today's agenda; Saying that Istanbul is making one of the most important metro breakthroughs in the world in terms of environmentally friendly, fast and comfortable metro constructions, İmamoğlu said:

“In this sense, we are the city that makes the most rail systems in the world at the same time. We opened 2020 kilometers of metro lines in 18 and 2021 kilometers in 11 to the service of Istanbulites. We aim to bring 2022 kilometers of metro lines in 18.2, 2023 kilometers in 41.5 and 2024 kilometers in 16.7 to Istanbulites. Like this; From June 2019, when we took office, to the end of 2024, we will have achieved an average mileage of more than 21 kilometers per year. This is a process that we never compromise on, that we care about and that has become our first priority in transportation.”

“THE FIRST PROJECT WE STARTED AGAIN”

Stating that the said line was one of the projects that stopped when they took over the task, İmamoğlu shared the following information: “This project was the first project that we restarted among the 10 lines that we received as stopped when we started our duty. The contract was signed on April 14, 2017, and at the end of December of the same year, the decision to terminate the contract was taken by IMM. As of the beginning of 2018, the project had actually stopped. With the agreement we made with the EBRD and Karadeniz Ticaret Bank on August 27, 2019, we provided a financing loan of 175 million Euros and we held our construction commencement ceremony a month later. I can herald that we are approaching 2019 percent as of September 4 in the project, which had a 2021 percent progress rate in July 40. The number of our employees increased to 1.860. It was 100 people when we got it. We continue to work 15 hours a day at 24 points in the station, switch and overnight line with cut-and-cover and drilling tunnel methods. A total of four tunnel boring machines, 2 to the north and 2 to the south, excavate the mainline tunnels. By the end of 2023, we aim to complete the signal tests and put the line into operation with passengers. The journey time of our fully automatic, driverless line will be 21 minutes in one direction and it will be able to operate with an interval of up to 90 seconds. It will also be able to carry 44.400 passengers per hour in one direction. We have supplied 40 vehicles to work on our line, they are now in our Dudullu warehouse. In addition, the production of an additional 68 vehicles will begin soon.”

'APPROVAL' THANKS TO THE ASSEMBLY

Emphasizing that everyone knows that the construction and manufacture of large-scale projects such as the metro is possible with long-term borrowings rather than equity, İmamoğlu said, “In this sense, in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Assembly held last week, Ümraniye-Ataşehir- Göztepe, Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli and Mahmutbey- I would like to share with our citizens the positive decision and approval regarding borrowing and obtaining funds for the Esenyurt lines, by thanking all members of parliament and all political party groups. Of course, the next stage of this is our fundraising. These processes also have mechanisms to be approved in Ankara. We hope that the same meticulousness and the same processes will work there, and the source will reach our other lines, such as the Ümraniye-Ataşehir-Göztepe line, as soon as possible. In this sense, especially our finance team and our friends will be working hard. Again, like these three lines we just mentioned, we hope and follow up that our files in the Parliament regarding our other lines waiting for borrowing will be released by the political party groups in the Parliament with the same understanding and with a joint decision.”

ALPKÖKIN: “EASIER TO START FROM ZERO”

Pelin Alpkökin, Head of IMM Rail Systems Department, also included technical details about the line in her speech. Alpkökin stated that they were trying to make the stopped metro lines operative when they took office, and explained the difficulties they experienced in that process, “This is our line that started to work after obtaining credit from 7 simultaneous stopped metro lines in a period of 3 months. From time to time, there are some criticisms about our work on stopped lines. But in this two-year process we have been through, I can say on behalf of myself and my team that we have re-launched these lines in conditions much more difficult than bidding for a line from scratch. Both technically, ground risks, legislation, and financially, it is much more difficult to get the lines to stand up than to get them out of tender, and the feature of this project is that we have tested these difficulties in this project for the first time. We have indeed solved these problems one by one with great success”. During the speeches, the images of TBM devices reaching Ümraniye and Sahrayıcedit Stations were reflected on the screen live. To the ceremony; CHP Istanbul deputy Gökan Zeybek and IYI Party Istanbul deputy Hayrettin Nuhoğlu also attended.
