İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, Aegean Army and Garrison Commander General Ali Sivri, İzmir Provincial Police Chief Mehmet Şahne, commanders and veterans attended the ceremony. After a wreath was laid at the Atatürk Monument, a moment of silence was observed and the National Anthem was sung.
Retired Colonel Mehmet Gökmen, Chairman of the Izmir Branch of the Turkish Combat Veterans Association, said that the Battle of Sakarya kazanHe reminded that after his death, the Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was given the rank of marshal and the title of veteran on September 19, 1921 by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Mehmet Gökmen said, “In our history, there is the honor of martyrdom and veteran. Citizens of the Republic of Turkey fight for their homeland, nation, flag and national anthem. The best example of this was in the War of Independence under the leadership of Atatürk, saying 'Either independence or death'. Everyone should know that no matter what, those who target the holy homeland are doomed to perish in the face of the struggle of our heroic army, security forces and patriots."
At the end of the program, the Turkish Armed Forces Band performed.
