Selim Özkan, the new president of İzmir Chamber of Veterinarians, and members of the board of directors paid a courtesy visit to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer. President Soyer wished Selim Özkan success in his duty. During the visit, studies on the sterilization of stray animals, which have been emphasized for a while, were also discussed. President Tunç Soyer said that they want to cooperate with the Chamber of Veterinarians for the sterilization of stray animals, the implementation of rabies vaccine as well as internal and external parasite applications.
The protocol was brought up
President Soyer said, “We are conducting intensive studies on the sterilization of stray animals in İzmir. Despite the fact that we have increased our veterinary staff, opened 7 separate service units in the districts, and doubled the number of sterilized stray animals, these efforts are still limited. Until new legal regulations regarding stray animals are made, both metropolitan and district municipalities should embrace this situation and continue to work. But even if we hire hundreds of veterinarians, we cannot solve the problem. However, we can move forward in a short time with the cooperation we will make with the Chamber of Veterinarians. We will look at how we can implement this within the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality legislation regarding the protocol to be made with the economic organization to be created by the chamber. Let's get this work done quickly."
