Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluvisited the fishermen, who started the new season with the end of fishing bans, at Gürpınar Fisheries Market. with the fishermen sohbet He listened to their concerns. İmamoğlu, who also held the first auction of the season, bought a butcher with an opening price of 300 TL for 250 TL by bargaining.

Addressing the shopkeepers after the visit, İmamoğlu said, “Hopefully, a fruitful fish season will be opened on this occasion. Every year on September 1, our fisherman meets the sea. Maybe we will say similar things, but this year, our hope is that the sea will offer us its blessings. That is our prayer. Because the more products in the sea, the more our tradesmen will win, and the cheaper the fish will come to the table of our citizens. It's a cost thing, of course. At this point, we should wish for blessings. We said bismillah this morning. We made our pitch inside. I hope it brings you blessings and luck," he said.

“EVERYONE HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT THE SEA”

İmamoğlu, who often draws attention to environmental awareness and sea cleanliness, spoke to the shopkeepers, whom he said are the ones who know the sea best, as follows:

“Of course, what we need to talk about in private this year is the cleanliness of our beautiful sea, our seas. Everyone has a responsibility to protect the seas we live in Marmara. In other words, every individual, from our state institutions to our municipalities, from our industrial facilities to our people engaged in agriculture, should adopt the principle of protecting the environment and not harming the seas and nature. In that respect, you are the one who knows best the blessing of the sea. I know that you are the ones who will protect the sea with their eyes, maybe in the front row.”

Emphasizing that the mucilage problem in the Marmara Sea this year worries everyone, İmamoğlu said that a total mobilization is necessary to solve the problem.

Emphasizing that the Sea of Marmara is fertile and that quick decisions must be taken to protect this sea, İmamoğlu said, “At this point, every institution has unanimously agreed on making investments, prioritizing measures, and acting quickly. From the ministry to the municipalities and institutions, however, this process, this threat has no chance to end overnight. It's the accumulation of years. Difficulty naturally exists. It has difficulties arising from being an inland sea brought by nature. Unfortunately, we are talking about a sea that stands in the middle of a place where almost one of the three people of our country lives. In other words, one of the three people of our country lives on the shores of the Marmara Sea. The people sitting around him should also watch the environment like their eyes. This is what a person who loves his country and nation should do. We will make this priority. Hopefully, we will share the steps we have taken and the steps we will take in this regard with all our compatriots, and we will share them with all of Turkey," he said.

WE ARE STRONG TO USE THIS FACILITY IN THE MOST EFFICIENT MANNER

Noting that Gürpınar Fish Market has had some problems since the beginning and he knew the distance difficulties, İmamoğlu said, “I am from Beylikdüzü. I know how it started and how it ended. But as of today, we are trying to use this facility in the most efficient way. While providing this efficiency, you and the chairman of the cooperative committee here know the steps we took last year and the previous year in protecting the tradesmen. We will protect both the tradesmen and our institution. Because what we want from here is to ensure that the products reach the citizens in the healthiest and healthiest way possible”.

RESPONSIBILITY SHALL BE ON THE OWNERS

Stating that as the Metropolitan Municipality, they take every step to make the fishermen and their families happy, İmamoğlu concluded his speech as follows:

“In the 2021-2022 season, the measures of nature will be at the forefront, we will follow the processes, we will sit down with you again in possible extraordinary situations and make the best decisions together. God bless our seas. But let's not forget that the responsibility falls on the servants while praying this prayer to the Creator. It falls on all of us. I wish you all to meet again in abundance this season. May God bless you abundantly. Let's say Bismillah. You have a nice way." Meanwhile, tradesmen offered baklava to İmamoğlu during the visit.

WE ARE WAITING FOR NEWS FROM THE MINISTRY

İmamoğlu also answered the question of a tradesman, "What is being done about the fight against mucilage?" Noting that a committee has been formed with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, the Union of Marmara Municipalities and the governors of the provinces on the coast of Marmara, İmamoğlu said that they have met with this committee three times so far. Noting that a scientific committee was formed with their recommendations and that this committee periodically informs the citizens, İmamoğlu continued as follows:

“The absence of mucilage now does not mean that it will not be in the future. It may appear as it did years ago. We cannot predict the rate. Our Minister of Environment and Urbanization announced that the mucilage process does not cause any health problems in fish. Therefore, this is the information we are going to give to the citizens right now. A strategic plan is being prepared for the Marmara Region. We look forward to the meeting today. On behalf of Istanbul, we, as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, made our preparations, presented it to the ministry, and I think the ministry will hold this meeting as soon as possible. We are waiting for news from the ministry. As a result of that meeting, you will also have information on this subject. The cleaning process we have done in the past, or rather at the beginning of the summer, is not a result. It's just a work we do about the cleansing of what exists."
