Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is starting the renovation works on Göztepe Martyr Kerem Oğuz Erbay Pedestrian Overpass located on Mustafa Kemal Beach Boulevard.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is starting maintenance, repair and reinforcement works on Göztepe Martyr Kerem Oğuz Erbay Pedestrian Overpass on Mustafa Kemal Beach Boulevard, which facilitates pedestrians' access to the beach and the ferry port. The 1997-meter-long suspension steel bridge, which was opened as the Güzelyalı Overpass in 2010 and named after Kerem Oğuz Erbay, who was martyred in 125 in İskenderun, will be completely renewed and strengthened. Within the scope of these works, the steel ropes of the suspension bridge will be loosened after 4 temporary legs are placed, the steel ropes will be controlled and tensioned again, and then the temporary legs will be removed. Reinforcement will be made at the base of the bridge tower (pylon) legs. The bridge tower will also be strengthened by the jacketing method. A wooden seating area will be created around the bridge legs. The existing coating on the walkway will be removed, and both the walkway and the railings will be renewed.

Temporary pedestrian crossing

The works, which will cost 5 million 170 thousand liras, will begin in the coming days and will be completed in April 2022. Before the manufacturing works, a pedestrian crossing with signaling will be created near the crossing, and then the pedestrian overpass will be closed for use. During the maintenance and repair works, on the road used by vehicles going in the direction of Konak on Mustafa Kemal Boulevard; In the 300-meter section where the bridge is located, the 3-lane road will be reduced to 2 lanes. As the only lane (right) on the land side of the road remains in the working area, it will be temporarily closed to traffic for 6 months.
