Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, with the support of the European Delegation to Turkey, will celebrate the "European Mobility Week", which is celebrated all over the world between 16-22 September, with the theme of "Sustainable Transport: Healthy and Safe Mobility" with various activities. With the “European Mobility Week”, a European Commission initiative that encourages cities and municipalities to take and support sustainable transportation measures, it is aimed to improve the transportation planning and public transportation system of municipalities, to increase bicycle and pedestrian routes, and for citizens to travel with alternative transportation methods instead of individual vehicles. . EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş said in his speech, “We aim to be a people-oriented city that puts people at its center instead of an automobile-oriented city surrounded by cars.”

To the events; Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mansur Yavaş, EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş, Union of Municipalities of Turkey Assistant Secretary General. Kayhan Özüm, Dutch Embassy Undersecretary of Trade and Economy Hellene Rekkers, EU Delegation to Turkey and Transport Sector Manager Göktuğ Kara will also attend.

The aim of the “European Mobility Week”, an initiative of the European Commission, which encourages cities and municipalities to take and support sustainable transportation measures, is to improve the transportation planning and public transportation system of municipalities, to increase bicycle and pedestrian routes, and for citizens to travel with alternative transportation methods instead of individual vehicles. .

ALL CITIZENS ARE INVITED TO THE EVENT

Underlining that as a result of all these activities, they aim to create a safer, more environmentally friendly, cleaner, healthier and more accessible transportation idea in Ankara, EGO General Manager Nihat Alkaş said:

“This program encourages the use of micro mobility tools and walking in order to improve public health and quality of life in cities, as well as increase urban mobility. It is important for each individual to use public transportation and micro mobility tools by changing their transportation habits, especially in the prevention of environmental disasters due to climate change. Globally, 45 thousand 2 institutions and organizations from 374 countries and 388 institutions and organizations from our country will participate in this year's events. Celebrated with the theme of 'Let's walk together', 2019 European Mobility Week was a week we celebrated with enthusiasm with the participation of approximately 50 thousand people. Unfortunately, we held our events in 2020 online in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic. With the theme of sustainable transportation, healthy and safe mobility, we, as EGO General Directorate, planned a series of events during this year's European Mobility week. We will continue with bicycle driving trainings for children and women, car-free city activities, bicycle driving festival for children, bicycle empathy trainings for our bus drivers, I go to work by bicycle campaign, seminars, online trainings and interviews. I invite all Ankara residents to celebrate this week together.”

GREAT ANKARA TOUR WILL BE HELD

As part of the event, Ashkaabat Street will be closed to traffic and a grand tour of Ankara will be held, which will be started by Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş and the Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut.

Concerts, DJ performance, Grand Ankara tour, driving simulation with VR glasses, yoga, zumba dance, sports activities and many awareness activities will also be held on the street and Anıtpark.

Citizens who want to participate in our event will be able to use the 'Park, Continue' car park free of charge throughout the day.

BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION IS A CONVENIENT, ENVIRONMENTAL AND COMFORTABLE TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE.

On Monday, September 20, 2021, the “Enjoy the Capital European Mobility Week Special Publication” and “Bike and Human Psychology” will be held on Monday, September XNUMX, XNUMX, where the effects of cycling on human psychology will be discussed.

On September 21-22, EGO Bus Drivers will be given “Bicycle Empathy Training in Traffic” and information that will draw attention to bicycle awareness will be shared. On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the social media campaign "I Go to Work by Bicycle" will be organized and the social media posts of citizens who went to work by bicycle with the #IBicycleToWork, #BikeToWork tags will be published on the website, digital screens and boards.

It will be emphasized again how comfortable, environmentally friendly and comfortable transportation is the bicycle transportation in the capital.

THE EVENT WILL BE FULL OF THEATER, CONCERTS AND BICYCLE RIDES

On Saturday, September 18, the "Riding Event for Children", which will start from Adnan Ötüken Park and end at Anıtpark, and the play "One Huge Donkey", written by Vedat Çiftçi and directed by Sema Çiftçi, organized by the Dutch Embassy, ​​will also be performed at Anıtpark. With the concert where local artists will also take the stage, the people of Başkent will have fun to their heart's content.

On Sunday, September 19, the car-free city day, which is held every year, will be held this year on Ashgabat Street (Bahçelievler 7th Street) as the “Car-Free Market”.
