Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank gave the start of the Efficiency Challenge (EC) Electric Vehicle and 17st High School Electric Vehicle final races organized by TÜBİTAK for the 1th time this year as part of the TEKNOFEST Aviation, Space and Technology Festival.
Varank, who came to TOSFED Körfez Racetrack for the 17th TÜBİTAK Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Final Races, closely examined the vehicles of high school and university students with Presidential Digital Transformation Office President Ali Taha Koç and TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal. Answering the questions of the members of the press after the examinations, Varank said that TÜBİTAK has been organizing these races for 16 years and recently these races have been held under the roof of TEKNOFEST, together with all other organizations. Pointing out that this is not a speed competition, but an efficiency competition, Varank said, "Here, we are measuring our students' ability to spend the least energy and travel the maximum distance with the vehicles they designed and produced." said.
Stating that high school students participated in the races for the first time this year, Varank continued as follows:
“We are really glad that the high school students are also showing interest. As part of TEKNOFEST, we organize competitions in 35 different categories. They have many different areas. From rocket racing to drone underwater racing. Our aim here is to make our young people inclined towards the technologies of the future, to work with the technologies of the future, to learn the team spirit through these competitions, and thus to become successful engineer scientists in the future. TEKNOFEST continues with all its excitement. Nearly 50 thousand teams applied to the competitions in 35 different categories. A total of 200 of our teams applied for electric vehicles and the interest is really great. Currently, the final races of the university students are being held.”
Minister Varank, expressing that they see the bright future of Turkey, said that there were no such opportunities in their own time.
Stating that high school students from all over Anatolia come together under the leadership of their teachers, form teams, design and manufacture their vehicles, Varank said, “Of course, TÜBİTAK has great support here. We meet some of the needs of the students, we provide them with mentorship, but our students also receive support from the industries in their own cities. They go and get support and sponsorship from companies, and young people who are only 16 or 17 years old sit down and design an electric vehicle themselves and enter the race with them.” made its assessment.

Pointing out that all their aim is to warm the young people to technology and science, Varank underlined that the most important investment is the investment made in people.
Explaining that they have seen the return of their support to the youth, Varank said, “They have accomplished very successful works in the Science Olympics in the last period. Teams that are successful in the competitions here receive important degrees in their international versions, rocket races and satellite races, and I hope we will accomplish much more in the future of Turkey with those young people.” shared his opinion.
Minister Varank also mentioned that they implemented the TÜBİTAK Science High School and continued his words as follows:
“This year, for the first time, our students will have stepped into their education life. Here, we want to train students who are particularly focused on basic sciences. In particular, we will train students with whom we will work towards the international Olympics. We are pleased with the interest here as well.”
Before the Efficiency Challenge (EC) Electric Vehicle competition, Varank visited the university students one by one and wished them success.
Afterwards, Varank started the race by waving the flag and used the vehicles of some universities outside the track.
111 TEAM APPLIED
This year, 111 teams participated in the International Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races and 65 teams participated in the High School Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races in the competition, where 36 teams applied.
In these races, electric vehicles developed by university students made 2 laps on a 65-kilometer track in 2 minutes in 30 days, and electric vehicles of high school students made 15 laps. At the end of these tours, the amount of energy consumed by the vehicles was determined and the ranking was created.
RANKING TEAMS RECEIVED AWARDS
In the finals, the winning teams received their awards. In the Hydromobile and Electromobile categories, where university students compete, the top three were awarded 50, 40 and 30 thousand liras for each category, respectively. In addition, awards ranging from 15 to 25 thousand liras were awarded in the Efficiency Record, Technical Design, Visual Design and Board Special branches.
In addition, awards between 3-20 thousand TL were given in the First Domestic Product Incentive, Second Domestic Incentive, Third Domestic Incentive and Promotion and Dissemination Incentive Awards.
The winners of the races between high school students received their awards of 30, 20 and 10 thousand TL, respectively, according to the top three. In addition, awards of 3-15 thousand TL within the scope of Domestic Design, Visual Design, Board Special and Promotion and Dissemination Incentive Awards found their owners.
In his speech at the award ceremony, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, noting that Turkey is getting stronger day by day in the journey of the National Technology Move, said, “You are the biggest source of this power. By Allah's leave, 5-10 years from now, Turkey will become a country that has achieved worldwide success not only in the defense industry but also in all fields of technology, and I hope you will be the ones who do this. We will always be by your side, if there are any, we will remove the obstacles in front of you. We will continue to support you in making the best products in the world.” he said.
TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal stated that alternative vehicles were just awareness 17 years ago, but they have become a necessity today. You've worked hard for a year, and we've seen the results of your work in the last few days. Thank you to your teachers and families. Some awards for high school students were given to several teams this year, instead of a single team, since we organized the competition for the first time. Each of the winners will be given a prize of 10 thousand TL. In addition, their trophies will be sent to them specially.” said.
TWO AWARDS TO YILDIZ TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
In the High School EC Performance Awards, YEŞİLYURT was the first, E-CARETTA was the second, NEUTRINO-88 was the third, and in the Electromobile category at the International EC Performance Awards, YOMRA Youth Center Energy Technologies Group was the first, SAMUELAR from Samsun University was the second, and Altınbaş University EVA TEAM was the third. Teams will receive their awards from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the TEKNOFEST event to be held at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on September 21-26.
The Hydromobile First Prize went to YTU-AESK_H from Yıldız Technical University. It did not come second or third in the Hydromobile Category, as it did not meet the requirement of getting at least 65 points in order to receive the award.
- The teams that were deemed worthy of the Board Special Award in the high school competition were THE GACA, MUTEG EA, WOLFMOBİL, İSTİKLAL EC and AAATLAS.
- E-GENERATION TECHNIC, CEZERİ YEŞİL, MEGA SOLO and ESATAMAT teams were awarded in the Visual Design Award category.
- In the Domestic Design Award category, E CARETTA from TRNC and YEŞİLYURT BİLGİ HOUSE and TEAM MOSTRA were awarded.
- The Board Special Award for university students went to the SAMUELAR team from Samsun University.
- The winner of the Visual Design Award was the ADYU CENDERE team from Adıyaman University.
- GÖKTÜRK team from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University won the Technical Design Award.
- Yomra Youth Center Energy Technologies Group won the Third Domestic Product Incentive Award at the Domestic Product Incentive Awards.
- Çukurova Electromobile from Çukurova University won the Second Domestic Product Incentive Award.
- YTU-AESK_H team of Yıldız Technical University was awarded the First Domestic Product Incentive Award
