The "Fire and Earthquake Symposium with International Participation" organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department and professional chambers has started. In the two-day symposium, efforts to prevent disasters such as forest fires, earthquakes and floods are discussed.

Organized in cooperation with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department, Chamber of Mechanical Engineers İzmir Branch, Chamber of Civil Engineers İzmir Branch, Chamber of Electrical Engineers İzmir Branch, Chamber of Architects İzmir Branch, Chamber of City Planners İzmir Branch, Chamber of Geological Engineers İzmir Branch and Chamber of Chemical Engineers Aegean Region Branch. “Fire and Earthquake Symposium and Exhibition with International Participation” started. In the symposium held at the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers (MMO) Tepekule Congress, Exhibition and Business Center, an exhibition of search and rescue and fire extinguishing equipment was also opened.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Yıldız Devran conveyed the works carried out by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality to create a disaster-resilient city. Stating that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department is an institution that always improves itself with the slogan of "Izmir is ready for disaster", Devran said, "We have 1300 expert personnel, 57 firefighting groups, and a fleet of 288 young vehicles. Our Fire Brigade Department provides services 7 hours a day, 24 days a week for the peace of our citizens and the protection of their lives and property. We hope that disasters never happen, but we continue to prepare as if they will happen at any moment.”

Forest mobilization in Izmir

Touching on forest fires, Yıldız Devran said: “Forest fires are a separate reality of our country. This year we have been very hurt. Now we have seen that it is very important to prevent the threat in the settlements that are intertwined with the forest. In this sense, our municipality carries out important studies on this issue. We established the Forest Villages and Rural Area Fire Response Branch Directorate under our Fire Brigade Department. Thus, we aim to increase our contribution to forest fires. We will distribute equipment to our villages to ensure that the fire is responded to as soon as possible in the settlements in the forested areas. We deployed 60 firefighting tankers last year, and we will deliver 65 more firefighting tankers to our villages at the end of this month.”

Vital issues will be widely discussed

Speaking on behalf of professional chambers, MMO İzmir Branch President Melih Yalçın stated that they turned the fire seminar, which was followed with great interest in previous years, into a symposium this year. Yalçın said that they aim to discuss, learn and follow these two critical issues on a wider platform with experts in the field by including a vital issue such as earthquakes in the scope of the symposium.

Izmir Fire Department arrives in minutes

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head İsmail Derse made a presentation at the symposium and conveyed their work.
