In the first month of the flood disaster, work continues in the Bozkurt district of Kastamonu to heal the wounds. The flood, which took place in the district on August 11 after heavy rains, turned into a disaster by causing great damage as well as loss of life. Under the coordination of the Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, the units of the ministries have been continuing their efforts to heal the wounds in the region for a month. Efforts are being made to erase the traces of the flood with the construction equipment that was sent to Bozkurt from all over Turkey.
The disaster affected not only the district center but also the villages. Immediately after the disaster, some citizens trapped in the villages were transferred to safe areas by helicopters, while the patients were taken to hospitals. Generators were transported by land to some villages without electricity, and to some by air.
Due to the collapse of the bridge over the Ezine Stream, two bridges, one of which is mobile, were built to connect the two sides of the district. Thanks to the bridges, the works on both sides of the district started to be done more quickly.
While the streets and shops under the mud in the district center were cleaned with construction machines, the vehicles damaged by the flood were also removed from the district center. The mud in the district was also carried out by thousands of trucks.
The belongings of hundreds of families were moved by the gendarmerie
Gendarmerie teams, which took an active part in the cleaning works, entered the most remote corners of the buildings and worked to purify the district from mud. Within the scope of the transportation work started on 21 August after the flood, the belongings of hundreds of citizens were transported to local and non-provincial addresses by military vehicles. The belongings of the citizens who did not have a place to put their belongings were also carefully placed in the warehouses by the Gendarmerie and taken under protection.
While the buildings that were heavily damaged in the flood began to be demolished, electricity and water were supplied to other buildings in a very short time.
Health Services Didn't Disrupt
While the State Hospital, whose garden and basement were flooded, was cleaned in a short time and started to serve the patients, mobile pharmacy service was also activated. In a short time, the Kovid-19 vaccine started to be given again in the district. Aid organizations have been providing food aid to disaster victims since day one. Food, clothes and cleaning materials were distributed to people by the social market.
While some shops were demolished and the foundations were laid for new ones to be built in a very short time, restoration work was started on the exterior and interior of the shops that will continue to serve. While the teams continue to work on repairing or completely demolishing and reconstructing the workplaces, approximately 40 container shops were created in order not to adversely affect the commercial life in this process.
Şahin Evran, who came to the region for help from Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, said that they set out on the day of the flood and reached the region on August 12.
Stating that they encountered a bad picture, Evran said, “During the flood disaster, the buildings were filled with water. We pulled the water and mud from the buildings. This place was not heartwarming at all, so we are saddened by that.”
Noting that the state is in the region with all its might, Evran said, “We have been working here for 30 days to heal the wounds. Our state is trying to heal all wounds. We are doing our best too.” he said.
Bozkurt shopkeeper Mustafa Rençber also stated that they went through a very difficult process and said, “I have never seen such a disaster before. There was a small flood, but there was no such damage. God bless our state. 81 provinces serve here, and it does not suit anyone to be ungrateful to this.” used the phrases.
Ali Aslan, the digger operator who came to the region from the Amasya Special Provincial Administration, said, “We came here to help. We fill trucks with earthworks. We're removing mud from under buildings. It has been working here for a month. In the first days I came for a week, then I went to rest, now I'm back. We are working to restore Bozkurt.” said.
