The Capacity of Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant is Increasing

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is going to a new tender for the capacity increase of Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is designed within the scope of the Grand Canal Project and is of great importance in the "Swimable Bay" goal. After the construction works that will start after the tender, the capacity of the facility will increase by 36 percent.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate continues its works to increase the capacity of Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, Turkey's largest advanced biological wastewater treatment plant, within the scope of the Grand Canal Project, which brings the İzmir Bay back to life. The facility, which treats 3 thousand cubic meters of wastewater per day by working 7/24 with a 605-phase capacity, will be able to treat 4 cubic meters of wastewater per day when the 820th phase construction is completed.

Treatment capacity will increase by 36 percent

At Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, which was put into service in 2000, a 3th phase with a wastewater treatment capacity of 2.5 cubic meters per second is being built, in addition to the 4-phase treatment units operating without any problems. With this new line to be added to the existing treatment plant, the daily treatment capacity of the plant will increase by 216 cubic meters per day.

Thanks to the new line, which will serve approximately 1 million 80 thousand people, it will be possible to treat wastewater at higher flow rates in rainy weather at Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, which operates continuously for 24 hours.

Efforts to improve and increase the capacity of Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, one of Turkey's exemplary treatment plants in terms of wastewater discharge quality, are also of great importance for maintaining the improvement in the Gulf.
