Izmir Metropolitan Municipality intensified its service inspections with the start of the new academic year. While fines were applied to services that did not comply with the determined criteria during the inspections, a shuttle vehicle carrying students was banned from traffic for 60 days, although it did not have a working license.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Police Department, Police Traffic Branch, has increased its inspections on school buses with the start of the new academic year. In the inspections carried out in line with the decisions of the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) and service regulations, it was determined that some service vehicles did not comply with the criteria. In addition to the presence of guide personnel (service mother) in the vehicles, belt control was also carried out. The teams also checked the fire extinguisher and similar safety equipment that should be in the vehicles.

Service vehicles that do not comply with the rules were treated according to the Municipal Orders and Prohibitions Regulation No. 1608, and a fine of 472 lira was applied. A bus carrying students without a working license was also banned from traffic for 60 days. It was stated that if the vehicle completes its documents, it can work again after 60 days.

“The vehicle cannot be operated without a guide”

Police Traffic Branch Manager Fatih Toprakdeviren said that after a long break, schools were opened and police teams were on duty to ensure the safety of students' lives. Fatih Toprakdeviren, who said that the inspections carried out in many points of Izmir will continue, said, “We are doing all the controls until the belts in the vehicle and the fire extinguisher. There are vehicles whose applications have been delayed for the 2021-2022 academic year. Necessary legal actions have been taken regarding all these," he said.

Stating that they are making efforts to ensure that children go to school in a safe and healthy way, Constabulary Traffic Branch Manager Fatih Toprakdeviren also explained the points that families should pay attention to, with the following words: The vehicle cannot be started without the service mother. Families should be especially sensitive in this regard. In addition, as part of the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, one of the seats should be full and the other one should be empty. Children must ride masked. Children must be wearing seat belts. There should be disinfectant and spare masks in the vehicles.”
