Atommash, a branch of AEM Technologies A.Ş, which is part of Atomenergomash A.Ş, the machine building division of Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, has started the shipment of steam generators produced for the Second Unit of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS). 355 steam generators, each weighing 4 tons, will reach the construction site after a 3-kilometer sea voyage.

AEM-Technologies General Manager Igor Kotov said: “The construction of the first of the 4 steam generators was completed 8 months ahead of schedule. The set's basic crafting time has been halved. This was achieved thanks to the effective and intensive breakthrough of the company. We greatly strengthened our production base and brought digital technologies. We continue to increase efficiency and develop staff. As a result, we are starting the shipment of the set for the second unit of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey today. The key point for us is that this is a shipment that started long before the appointed time. We can say that the nuclear power equipment manufacturing at the facility has reached a stable 'production pace' level with the maximum utilization of the production capacities,” he said.

Steam generators are the main equipment of the first circuit of the reactor. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with 4+ generation VVER-3 reactors, each of which will be equipped with 1200 steam generators. Akkuyu NPP, the first nuclear power plant project in the world built with the "Build, Operate, Own" model, will consist of VVER-1200 type 3+ generation 4 reactors. The capacity of each reactor will be 1200 MW.

The steam generator is considered a first-class safety product. The body of the steam generator, which consists of a horizontal cylindrical vessel with two elliptical bases, is located in the middle of the reactor cooler inlet and outlet collectors. There is a steam space at the top of the body and a heat exchange surface consisting of 11.000 stainless pipes at the bottom. The steam generator pipes, which have a diameter of 16 mm and a length of 11 to 17 meters, can reach a length of 148,5 km if they are completely combined. Pipe ends are fixed to two collectors. While the length of the steam generator reaches about 15 meters, its diameter exceeds 4 meters. The weight of the equipment reaches 355 tons.

Delivery from Attomash to the customer is carried out in combination, by land and sea. The equipment will first be transported by land to the Tsimlyansk Dam Port. The steam generators will then be loaded onto the barge using a 650-tonne bridge crane and sent to Turkey by sea.

The “river-sea” type ship will depart from Volgodonsk and pass along the Don River through the cities of Konstantinovsk, Semikarakorsk, Rostov-on-Don, Azov. It will then pass through the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait to the Black Sea. The equipment, which will then pass through the Bosphorus, will reach the Mediterranean Sea after the Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelles and the Aegean Sea. The equipment will thus reach the Akkuyu NPP construction site after a sea voyage of approximately 3.000 km.
