President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the construction site of the country's first nuclear power plant. Erdogan was accompanied by Vice President Fuat Oktay, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez and Minister of Treasury and Finance Lütfü Elvan, as well as Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu.

The official delegation was at the Akkuyu NPP site with Aleksey Yerhov, the Russian Ambassador to Ankara, and Aleksey Likhachev, the General Manager of the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom, and AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. Welcomed by General Manager Anastasia Zoteeva.

President Erdoğan, who was informed about the progress of the project in the field, also met with young Turkish engineers who were educated at universities in Russia as part of the Akkuyu NPP personnel preparation program.

The construction works at the Akkuyu NPP site are carried out simultaneously at the site of the power plant's 4 power units. At the construction sites of the 1st and 2nd power units, the main and auxiliary buildings are already being built, while the equipment is being assembled. While the core arrester and dry reactor protector have been installed in the reactor building of the 1st power unit so far, the reinforcement and concrete pouring works of the construction structures and buildings continue for the installation of the main circulation pipeline (ASBH) components, which will combine the steam generators and the main equipment of the NGS first cycle. .

President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Russia Vladimir Putin attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the 3rd power unit by video conference method at the beginning of March.

In the area, reinforcement of the foundation plates of the reactor section and turbine building at the construction site of the 3rd power unit, and pouring concrete on its foundation were completed.

At the construction site of the 4th power unit, excavation of the foundation pit is carried out in accordance with the limited work permit obtained on June 30, 2021. The documentation package required to obtain the construction license of Akkuyu NPP's 4th power unit is currently under review by the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

Aleksey Likhachev, General Manager of Russian State Atomic Energy Agency Rosatom, made the following statements regarding the issue: “The cooperation between Russia and Turkey in the field of nuclear technology is strategic, and the most important project in this field is the Akkuyu NPP project. Today, full-fledged construction work is carried out on the site, simultaneously on three power units. This is a uniquely large project for international NPP construction projects. An unprecedented pace was given to the construction work. I would like to state that as a result of the joint efforts, friendly and constructive relations have been established between Russian and Turkish companies, and that all works are proceeding in accordance with the planned schedule.”
