Mentoring meetings of the bicycle for everyone project have started

Mentoring meetings of the 'Bike for Everyone Project', carried out by the World Resources Institute (WRI) Turkey Sustainable Cities and Dutch Cyclists' Association Fietsersbond, which aims to use bicycles as a means of transportation in cities, started.

After the trainings with the participation of Metropolitan Municipalities and stakeholder NGOs from Antalya, Adana, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İzmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli and Konya, which were determined as pilot cities within the scope of the 'Bicycle for Everyone Project', mentoring meetings are held for each province. Experience and knowledge are shared in the trainings.

ONLINE MEETING

The staff working in the project from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department and the Department of Transportation Planning and Rail Systems, as well as the relevant people from the Antalya City Council and Antalya Bicycle Association (ANTBISDER), the Antalya stakeholders of the project, attended the online mentoring meeting.

A LOCAL ACTION PLAN WILL BE PREPARED

The mentoring process will start within 4 months after the training and NGOs will develop local strategies and action plans for their cities. Antalya Metropolitan Municipality will work with NGOs in this process and will support the preparation of the local action plan. As a result of the mentoring meetings to be held within the scope of the project, which will enable NGOs to develop policy for the development of bicycle transportation, local strategies and action plans will be prepared by the pilot provinces and the relevant NGOs will present these plans to the decision makers in the municipalities.

ACTIVE COOPERATION WITH NGOs

Within the scope of the Bicycle for All project, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality; It cooperates with Antalya City Council and Antalya Bicycle Association (ANTBİSDER). The aims of the project include empowering civil society to enable more active democratic participation in decision-making processes. Promoting good governance between NGOs and local and central government is also among the objectives of the project. In addition, it is planned to carry out studies on encouraging inter-sectoral cooperation on bicycle transportation in Turkey through the example of “Tour de Force”, which aims to strengthen cycling policies in the Netherlands.
