2 TRAVELS FREE ON TRAM AND METRO
The project that will ease the traffic by pulling thousands of vehicles from the city transportation; It was formed by the coming together of İBB subsidiaries İSPARK and Metro İstanbul. Drivers who leave their vehicles in the Park and Continue (P+R) car parks of İSPARK, located at 16 points close to the metro and tram, will receive two free trips at Metro Istanbul's metro and tram stations. The new application will start on September 10 and will continue until December 31.
ÖZGÜR SOY: “WE WANT TO GAIN THE HABIT OF USING METRO AND TRAM”
Pointing out that the use of rail systems should be increased for a more comfortable and sustainable life in Istanbul, Metro Istanbul General Manager Özgür Soy said, “We want to give private vehicle users the habit of using subways and trams.” Soy continued:
“It is very important for our city to prefer the rail system instead of the transportation vehicles working with fossil energy. In this context, our cooperation with İSPARK will be a very useful application both to relieve Istanbul traffic and to leave a cleaner city for future generations.”
MURAT ÇAKIR: “100 KM CONVOY WILL NOT COME INTO TRAFFIC”
ISPARK General Manager Murat Çakır stated that they aim to encourage public transportation and reduce the traffic density in the city with the project, and noted that every day, a 100-kilometer convoy of vehicles will be withdrawn from the traffic. Çakır shared the following information about the new application:
“As İSPARK, we serve approximately 46 thousand Istanbulites a day with P+R car parks with a capacity of 15 thousand 11 vehicles at 10 points throughout the city. There are 4.5 million vehicles registered to traffic in Istanbul. In line with the strategies determined by IMM in transportation, we started a study to encourage the people of Istanbul to use public transportation, with the contributions of Metro Istanbul and BELBİM, in order to increase the mobility of individuals, not vehicles. The application will be valid in our 16 P+R car parks in the first stage.”
HOW DO THE SYSTEM WORK?
Istanbulites who want to reach different points of the city by leaving their vehicles at the "Park and Continue" points in the designated places and using the Metro and Tram stations within walking distance, will be able to load the cost of two journeys made by Metro or Tram during the day by having the Istabulkart, which they pay at the parking lot entrance, scanned by Biletmatik points. When they make a payment while leaving the parking lot, the two usage fees they used will be refunded to their cards as e-money.
