Investments in the electronic communication sector did not slow down. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu said that in the second quarter of the year, the net sales revenues of the electronic communications sector increased by 18 percent, while investments increased by 34 percent.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority.

Pointing out that the electronic communication sector is important in terms of influencing the ways of doing business of other sectors and increasing productivity, Karaismailoğlu stated that they are pleased that the positive picture continues in every period, considering the data of the sector from the past.

Karaismailoğlu said, “We expect the technologies that will be put into use in the near future to increase the acceleration of the industry,” and noted that 5G and widespread high-speed fiber infrastructures will also make a positive contribution to the recovery and improvement in the economy in general.

3,8 BILLION TL INVESTMENT IN THE SECTOR

Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu pointed out that in the second quarter of 2021, net sales revenues in the sector increased by more than 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded 22,1 billion liras. Stating that the share of Türk Telekom and mobile operators in this revenue is 16,1 billion liras, Karaismailoğlu said, “The high growth in investments since the beginning of the pandemic continued in this quarter as well. Investments increased by approximately 34 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and exceeded 3,8 billion liras.

152,4 MILLION MOBILE PHONE NUMBER MOVED

Noting that the number of mobile subscribers is 84,6 million, Karaismailoğlu continued as follows:

“Subscriber prevalence is 101,2 percent. 78,5 million of these subscribers are 4,5G subscribers. The number of machine-to-machine communication subscribers reached 7 million. While the number of mobile numbers ported was 152,4 million in total, 2,3 million numbers were transferred in this quarter. Our total number of broadband internet subscribers; It increased to 68,3 million, 85,7 million of which were mobile, an increase of 9,3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest percentage increase in the number of subscribers was realized in the number of 'Fiber to the Home' subscribers with 32,3 percent, followed by the number of 'Cable Internet' subscribers with a rate of 13,6%. While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 211 GByte, the average monthly usage of mobile subscribers reached 10,5 GByte. The total fiber infrastructure length in our country increased by 10,2% and exceeded 445 thousand kilometers.”

Karaismailoğlu added that in the second half of the year, they expect the increase in financial data, subscriber numbers and usage amounts in the electronic communication sector and accordingly operator investments to continue.
