Metin Akbaş, General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), hosted Kenan Poleo, the British Consul General in Istanbul, in his office. Emphasizing the long-standing strong relations between the two countries, Poleo wished General Manager Metin Akbaş success in his new position.
The British Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo, as well as International Trade Department Director Paul Hardy, Commercial Attaché David Machin, UKEF Country Director Özgür Kutay, Trade Manager Zeyno Sobacı, Trade Advisor Yiğit Sami Gümüşok and TCDD visited the Headquarters on 21.09.2021. officials attended.
Emphasizing the long-standing strong relations between the two countries, Consul General Poleo, reminding especially the contributions of the United Kingdom to the first railways in Turkey, stated that British railway engineers worked on these first lines. Poleo also said that they would be pleased to start the studies by determining the possible cooperation areas between the railway sectors of the two countries in a more concrete way.
General Manager Akbaş; Mentioning the existing railway projects of TCDD, he stated that he is working to carry the railway presence in Turkey to an advanced level. He stated that he would be pleased to work together to develop cooperation in the railway sector between TCDD and the UK railway companies.
After the visit, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş presented Consul General Poleo with a pocket watch with TCDD emblem.
