While it is stated in the foundation's statement that Yavaş exhibits a management approach that prioritizes public trust and transparency, Chairman Mansur Yavaş said, “This success does not belong to Mansur Yavaş, it belongs to 6 million Ankara residents. I will receive this award on your behalf.”
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş has been named 'City' for his transparent management practices, especially projects that facilitate the lives of citizens in the Capital, and his vision of building Ankara as a metropolis equal to the great capitals of Europe and Asia, and his efforts to support the poor and disadvantaged segments of the society. He received the '2021 World Mayor's Capital Award' given by the Mayors Foundation.
The World Mayor's team said in a statement, "The World Mayor Capital Award was given to Turkey's Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş for his effort and vision to build a metropolis equal to the major capitals of Europe and Asia."
WAS THE FIRST AMONG 18 CAPITAL MAYORS
Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who was previously deemed worthy of the transparency award by Transparency International and the Humanitarian Development Foundation, was the only one in Turkey and one of four mayors in Asia to be included in the 'World Mayor' candidate list, where 21 mayors from 32 countries were nominated. Mayor Yavaş, who answered the questions sent by those who voted for him after he made it to the final, was awarded the '18 World Mayor's Capital Award, ranking first among the mayors of 2021 capital cities.
IT IS BELIEVED TO TURN ANKARA INTO ONE OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST CAPITALS
World Mayor announced the team in an email to their voters that Yavaş won the '2021 World Mayor Capital Award'. In the e-mail sent to those who voted for President Yavaş, the reason for the award was explained in the following terms:
“He exhibited a management approach that prioritized public trust and transparency. He set forth a vision to build a metropolis equal to the great capitals of Europe and Asia. He fought corruption with courage and faith. It supported the poor and disadvantaged sections of the society. It invests in clean water and renewable energy. Provided internet access to areas with poor connections. Looking at thousands of references and comments, the people of Ankara and many from Turkey believe that Mansur Yavaş will make Ankara one of the greatest capitals in the world.”

President Mansur Yavaş, who was at the 100th Anniversary celebrations of the Sakarya Victory held at the Youth Park at the time the award was announced, made his first statement to the citizens here. But this success does not belong to Mansur Yavaş, it belongs to 6 million Ankara residents. I hope I will receive this award on your behalf. I offer endless love and respect to all of you.”
