GE Marine and TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. (TEI) signed a letter of understanding (MOU) today at IDEF'21 in which they discussed cooperation opportunities regarding the manufacture, installation and repair of GE's LM2500 and LM500 gas turbines.

Within the scope of the memorandum of understanding, GE and TEI will continue localization negotiations regarding the production, assembly, testing, maintenance, inspection, repair and revision of the LM2500 and LM500 gas turbine families, both within the scope of export programs and programs in Turkey. The memorandum also includes opportunities to involve TEI in various design processes for potential naval programs.

TEI General Manager and Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Akşit said, “ TEI, together with GE, has been producing high-quality aviation engine parts and modules since 1985, and thanks to its superiority in service support for military and commercial engines, we supply our domestic engines not only for national needs, but also for global OEMs. and has been a major player in defense and aerospace by manufacturing for end users.” said. Akşit continued his words as follows: “With this letter of agreement signed, TEI will also have the opportunity to become an export-oriented OEM approved/certified service provider for the LM2500 family and LM500 gas turbines used by Turkey, as well as for the specified product families. This collaboration will also enable localization opportunities in the design, component and module manufacturing, assembly and testing of such aerospace-derived gas turbines, and will open new doors to leverage the capacity of other companies and local resources in the ecosystem.”

LM2500 for Turkish Navy

The LM2500 family – LM2500 (25,1 MW), LM2500+ (30,2 MW) and LM2500+G4 (35,3 MW)-, with fast start-up capabilities, easy on-platform maintenance and more than 99% reliability, 98% They are twin-shaft engines that offer outstanding worldwide fleet performance with more than one mission readiness.

GE has long been a reliable supplier to the Turkish Navy. All of Turkey's multi-purpose corvettes in the MİLGEM project are powered by GE LM2500 and combined diesel engines. The Turkish Navy's Barbaros and Gabya class frigates are equipped with twenty-four LM2500s and two LM2500 gas turbines will power the DIMDEG (Marine Supply and Combat Support Ship) under construction.

GE Marine's extensive in-country experience also makes the LM2500 and LM500 gas turbines an ideal choice for the Turkish Navy's TF2000 and Turkish Type Fast Attack Boat programs.
