Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality officials and Trabzon City Council Executive Board members came together at the meeting held in Trabzon City Council to discuss and consult the latest situation in the project prepared for Kahramanmaraş Street. At the meeting where many issues were evaluated in detail, Metropolitan Municipality Head of Science Department Murat Öztürk, Head of Transportation Department Fatih Bayraktar, Trabzon Transportation A.Ş. General Manager Samet Ali Yıldız, City Council President Prof. Dr. Hasan Karal and Trabzon City Council Executive Board members were present.
WE CONSULT WITH THE DYNAMICS OF THE CITY
Murat Öztürk, Head of the Department of Science Affairs of the Metropolitan Municipality, shared the last point reached in the project prepared for Kahramanmaraş Street with the participants in his presentation. Answering the questions of the executive board, Öztürk said, “We are continuing our project and implementation studies under the leadership of our Honorable Metropolitan Mayor Murat Zorluoğlu. As a result of the scientific data and consultations obtained on Maraş Street, which is the heart of the city, it was decided to close it to traffic. In this context, we share the latest situation with the city's dynamics and relevant professional chambers in the project we have done for Maraş Street, and receive suggestions or criticisms, if any. After completing this process, we will finalize the project and move on to the tender stage.
LIGHT RAIL SYSTEM IS ADVISED
Trabzon City Council President Prof. Dr. Hasan Karal, on the other hand, stated that they shared the report, which reflects the views of the Executive Board in the light of scientific data on Kahramanmaraş Street, with the Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Department and the public before, and stated that the last project presented included other views, except for the light rail system. Thereupon, Head of Transportation Department, Fatih Bayraktar, emphasized the importance of handling the light rail system holistically and expressed his views on why it would not be appropriate to lay rails on the current route at this stage.
USE SOLAR ENERGY
City Council President Prof. Dr. Hasan Karal also emphasized the importance of renewable energy sources and stated that solar energy should also be used for lighting during the arrangement to be made in such a detailed project. Karal said that a study in this direction, even with partial lighting, would be a start and an example for other projects to be made.
LANDSCAPE MUST BE DONE WITH REGIONAL TREES
One of the important issues emphasized by the members of the Executive Committee of the City Council was that the trees to be used in the landscaping of Maraş Street were from the region and were selected from fruit-bearing species. In this way, it was stated that if sufficient food is provided to the bird diversity consisting of seagulls and pigeons around the Square, the city can achieve a different diversity with the participation of other birds. The opinion that the birds can feed on the fruits of the trees that will grow here was also welcomed by the other participants.
WASTE MUST BE COLLECTED BY SPECIAL WASTE VEHICLE
Another issue that came to the fore at the meeting was where the businesses on this street would empty their garbage after the completion of the Maraş Street works. The prevailing opinion was that the underground or garbage can applications where the garbage would be collected would not suit such a decent street. Instead, the issue of keeping the garbage in the enterprises and collecting it at certain times of the day with special garbage vehicles to be assigned by the municipality was discussed.
